Can you identify / help find this vintage unicorn poster?
« on: August 04, 2016, 10:32:44 AM »
It was my older sister's, then I inherited it. We both love it. It is cardboard, the edges are torn and it is wrinkled. I would like to find a print of this for her birthday gift. Google image search isn't helpful. The best I can find is that it was from Hallmark stores in 1981/82 and reissued either in poster or puzzle format (not sure) in 1985. Anyone know the title or artist? I've found a puzzle by Songbok called Song of the Unicorn also sold at Hallmark but no poster.

Thank you!

I'm no help on locating a print, but worst case scenario you could get a professional scan and have someone touch it up for you and get a print of that.

It was released/reproduced as a wall scroll at some point as well. Wish I was still in contact with the person that had it. Hers was signed.

I have this puzzle. All I can do is confirm that it was produced by Springbok for Hallmark, and the title is "Song of the Unicorn". The back of the box features a poem by Jeff Morgan:

"With joy, I roam
the misty morning meadows

And race beneath
the rainbow with the wind...

I rest
Within the mystic, moonlit forest

And run
in midnight dreams,

forever free."

It looks like there might be a signature on it, under the butterfly in the lower left corner... Can you make it out at all? That might give you something to go by.

I have the puzzle too!  Had it since childhood.  :)
Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

I looked on ebay and found a larger photo with the signature visible. It looks like "Fernando".

I found this site that lists all the Springbok puzzles with some random information about each of them:
http://www.oocities.org/jigsaw4me/500.html

It has "Song of the Unicorn" listed, but no artist. However this puzzle is in a similar style:
http://www.oocities.org/jigsaw4me/pzl4172.jpg

It's called "Land of the Dragon", and it's by an artist named Fernando Casini.

If you go here and search for Fernando Casini, you'll find more work that's similar:
https://stock.gillhamstudios.com

I think he's your artist, though I can't seem to find any place that is selling prints. It's a start I guess:/

That site is a digital art archive. It doesn't have your poster on it. If it did, you could pay to get a high quality download of the image. You might be able to contact them anyway and see if they have any more information about that particular image.  Probably not, but maybe? There are a couple other similar style images on that site if you want to consider something by the same artist, but not the exact image.

Good luck!
