I'm not sure what the plant itself is (maybe some type of anacharis?), but the dark fuzzy spots on the leaves (esp in the 5th pic) look like black hair algae, which will take over a tank if you let it & is hard to get rid of. Not many critters will eat it, though there are a couple of types of shrimp and dwarf plecos that will. Could be wrong, though. It's a neat plant- the shape of the leaves is really nice.

Thanks for that warning! These aren't in my tank yet. Hopefully none of the plants it came with had it on them. I'll try to check them.

Edit: I just looked up the black hair algae. Says apple snails will eat it. That may explain why my mystery snails have been harassing all the new plants! And here I was running around glaring at them all and saying, "Guys! Quit eating my plants! I gave you food! You aren't supposed to eat plants if I feed you!" LOL And here they were probably just doing their job!

I tried searching my Aquarium Plants book, but in a 111 pages of listed plant species with accompanying photos, I couldn't find it at all. Not even anything remotely similar looking.

Sorry I can't be of help. The easiest way to figure it out might be to contact where ever you got the water sprite from and ask them.

It was the pet store and I doubt they have a clue. If there isn't a picture by the tank they tend to be clueless. I'll ask next time we go though.

You might want to check out /r/aquariums on reddit! They are a wealth of information!

It's actually a pretty plant. And it's supposed to eat ammonia. I just wish it hadn't introduced pond snails and algae to all 5 aquariums!

That's a cool plant with a fun name! I was expecting a spritely fairy-fish or something lol
