WARNING - Fake Gumtree Ad
« on: May 15, 2016, 12:01:33 PM »
For anyone looking for G1's, I just saw this ad on Gumtree. Sadly, after a quick search, I have found that the picture they are using has been copied from a USA eBay auction that ended weeks ago for around $676.81.

GumTree Ad - https://www.gumtree.com/p/other-baby-stuff/my-little-pony-lot/1169410791

Original eBay Ad - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-My-Little-Pony-Vintage-lot-of-82-ponies-pegasus-unicorn-G1-babies-TAF-/172181765956?rmvSB=true&nma=true&si=7f94vhxKBbrjBuOYDvvzHJCR380%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I was nearly scammed earlier today by somebody who contacted me through Pre-Loved, advertising the exact same lot for sale. After telling them that I know the picture had been copied and I doubted they actually had the ponies in their possession, I never heard another word from them (funny that!).

Anyway, please don't be fooled. There are some fabulous ponies in the lot that claim to have for sale but they only want £25.....? I have reported the ad so we'll see if it stays live after 12 hours. If it does, Gumtree have ignored my report!

Stay safe everybody!

That's terrible. Well done you for figuring it out. Makes sense as well cause the seller seems new as well. Sigh hope no one does like a cash transfer thinking its a fab deal.

I reported that ad too, so glad to see its been removed! What iv learned about Gumtree is you must always do a reverse image search & only ever pay by paypal!

Thanks Babydoll!

I tried a reverse image search but didn't come up with anything. The reasons I became suspicious were: 1. I knew I recognised the picture - turns out it was the previous eBay auction and 2. They were only asking for £25 for 82 fabulous ponies! It seemed a bit off and as soon as I tracked down the original source of the image, I had to report it and let folks here know to stay away from it.

Very glad to see that it's gone!  :hifive:

Oh really, thats weird it never came up   i never did a reverse image search either as I instantly recognised the photo from Ebay (I was watching the auction). I got scammed on gumtree last year with someone using stolen images so im super wary with gumtree now, thankfully i paid by paypal so i got my money back though!

No, I just tried a reverse image search again and still no results! It's only because I have a good memory that I remembered the picture from being on eBay haha!

I got scammed on Gumtree too. Unfortunately, I sent the money by bank transfer in good faith, as I believed I was dealing with the older parents of a young lady. Turns out, it was a kid in his 20's who knew how to play the game. Filed a police report but didn't see the money again.

So yes, you're right -be careful on Gumtree & the like and PayPal is the way to go :)
