What's your Sea pony cleaning method?
« on: May 10, 2016, 06:19:20 PM »
So i have a sea pony that has nasty black stuff in it.
And a white Sea mist that has that classic brown spots
And I'm wondering if I should use oxy clean on them both.

Will the oxyclean whiten my sea mist?

What do you use to clean your Sea ponies.

And what mistakes did you make?

Behead and scrub!  All seaponies get their heads taken off and a full cleaning when they come into my hands - 99/100, they're filthy inside.  Toothbrush and pipecleaners are helpful for reaching the hard to get to areas, hot water, soap takes care of the rest.  Never had to oxyclean 'em, be careful of the neon hair colors as they're prone to bleeding.  Make sure they're fully dry before reassembly, same as any other.

Oxy won't take out the brown stains, sadly. It's plastic breakdown and/or staining from the glue.  Do remove and discard any glue you find in adult sea ponies, there's usually a big lump of it holding down the weight and often drips on the inside. It's nasty stuff, and half the reason the adults show up with brown blotches so often. I also tend to leave out the weights if they're rusty, stored separately from the pony.

I wonder if white vinegar would help at all.

I don't like to use alot of strong chemicals just beacuse over time I wonder how they will change the plastic.

i use a floor cleaner called Handy Andy (diluted) its harmless enough and it seems to lift all the nasty stuff of, great for rust without fading anything and a good old bottle brush

they are great for all ponies and the ones for baby bottle are better as they will have the smaller brush on it or with it and thats great for the inside of the head :)

White vinegar is great for moldy ponies! It kills it off so it won't grow back and it's mild enough that it won't harm them at all. Just fill up the inside of the pony and let it sit for an hour or so, then scrub! ^.^
