OK so why are these guys not fakies...
« on: May 09, 2016, 04:58:18 PM »
I'm thinking it's because there was a legit license with hasbro or some such business relationship with "furga" to produce the flat foot italian cotton candy ponies?

thank you wiki

http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/G1_Cotton_Candy#Italian_Cotton_Candy_Variant_V_.28Furga_.22Il_mio_piccolo_Pony.22.29

so yes it seems obvious on the one hand that they used the CP mold, but the art is not hasbro. I'm remembering the story that settled it that spain's "piggy" ponies were legit nirvana was finding a MOC with hasbro art.

So what's the deal with putting these gals in nirvana class?

Many thanks in advance for the scoop on the "other" blue cotton candy and how this toy compares to say those argentina "fakies"

Yes-  Toys/dolls do not have to be made by the US manufacturer to be legit- just licensed.  A lot of toy companies in other countries (Estrela, Basa, etc.) made toys locally because they did not allow the import of toys from outside their country.

I assume that someone must have found packaging at some point that confirmed they were legit licensed ponies.

Yes, Hasbro license given to the manufacture is what makes something "not fake". The box art doesn't really matter, so long as the license was there.

These are really cool, and only just found out about them recently.  But are they actually licensed?.. I don't see Hasbro or MLP logo on the box anywhere.

Looking at the pics I don't see Hasbro or it's logo anywhere on the box. :/

But I think they are lovely! ^^

There is a thread on them here ^.^

http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,371465.0.html

I believe the toy company that made them had the licence for My Pretty Pony.

yay  thanks PKW for the thread links :-)

OK - my pretty pony license makes sense.  Wow, has anyone ever seen an italian made My Pretty Pony??

I think that other bluebelle like CC was a prototype from a catalogue shoot  - I think the owner did share some photos

OK - I didn't know that there was a conversation back 2015 on this  pony = I  would love to see more pics of that blue CC :-) she seems really vibrant blue like italy blue lickety /blue posey

I was thinking how the south american market in Brazil had that "suzie" pony, Argentina has that put together, and since discovering Venezuela, they made squeaky toys later on =  all independent of hasbro affiliation I'm thinking (?) so designated as fake...

So I was wondering if that version of "mio piccolo" was  more like the knock-off from the regular MLP bubble/card version = like a toy competitor.

Like how in the US we have stores that carry G3mold ponies

Thanks again for providing the history links :-)

You are welcome ^.^

I did quite a lot of online research at the time and the company that made those ponies and My Pretty Pony mostly made dolls :) I will have to look again as I can't quite remember what else I found out.

Here is a link to the other blue Cotton Candy ^.^

Oh that's interesting-

I do wonder if that company actually had the license to make the ponies when they were made.  It could be the license was lost?

I've discovered that at least with respect to BASA, another small doll/toy manufacturer that made locally with a license, toys like My Little Pony and Strawberry Shortcake.  However, they appear to have made BOTH licensed and then later non-licensed products- both using the same molds.

The small licensed dolls are labeled Fresitas (with the logo) and also say in tiny print either "Marca Registrada American Greetings Corp. Characters" or "Fabrico en ..Peru por BASA bajo licencia de # Kenner Parker Toys Inc. (KPT)"  (so seemingly licensed).  The big doll does not have the licensed identified, but it does have the SSC logo-  and the doll is marked American Greetings Corp on her back.

That purple doll though- the package is marked somewhere BASA- and is identical to the licensed dolls, even with the same comb.  However-  the package does not identify Fresitas or American Greetings or Kenner.  It appears to be a knock off.  So I think they may have made the doll later, after BASA lost the Strawberry Shortcake license...  speculation of course. But BASA did have the license at one point and then at another point it was expired- so I think the only logical explanation.

Could the same explanation apply to these ponies?

the lack of branding on the hooves tends to point to an expired license too?

I've seen MOC BASA ponies packaged with these combs similar to Rose Petal Place rose combs too.
Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

Some MOC Peru ponies have those Rose Petal Place combs as well. On the topic of Peru & licensing... the ponies from Peru were made in the BASA factories, but carded by a different company called Maxy. Apparently BASA had licensing with Mattel and Mattel threatened to pull their licensing if BASA produced toys for competing companies, specifically Hasbro. So Hasbro made a licensing deal with a smaller toy company, Maxy. Maxy then  subcontracted the production of the ponies to the BASA factories.

That's a bit off topic from the original discussion of the Italian companies, but it is an example of hoops that were jumped through to maintain licensing rights from large American toy companies in the 80's.
