East Coast Fan Conventions
« on: May 01, 2016, 09:18:20 PM »
Hi east coast USA ponies! What are your favorite fan conventions? My sister is moving to Pennsylvania this summer. I'm pretty bummed about it, but on the bright side - I can now visit more places! We like to go to comics and anime conventions, and we've also started showing our art at artist alleys. Anyone have any recommendations?

I think the biggest East Coast cons are Dragon*Con, New York Comic Con, and Otacon. Otacon would be the closest to your sister and probably a relatively easy drive. Big cons are a mess of people, though! I prefer slightly smaller ones, but I don't know of any in that specific area...

Where at in Pennsylvania?

In Pittsburgh we have a few different comic and toy conventions, as well as a big anime convention each year- Tekko. I go to Tekko and cosplay every year and it's really fun. And like I said, there are typically several comic conventions to choose from. One of them, Steel City Con, even happens multiple tines a year, and they have decent guest appearances and lots of vintage (and newer) toys for sale! If you're into the furry scene, Pittsburgh hosts the largest furry convention in North America each year. I've never gone, but I have friends who do and they love it!

I don't know much about the con scene near Philly, but since it's the only other "big" city in PA, I'm sure they have a lot to offer. :)

Oh, and of course any cons in the surrounding states won't be too far. My friends and I are driving to NJ next month for AnimeNEXT. I prefer small-ish cons, although NYCC is on my list to eventually get to since NYC isn't too far a drive, either.

Fan Expo.  Largest con in Canada and people from all over the world attend.

Soo big that one year they overbooked and there were a lot of people that payed and couldn't get in.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! The biggest convention I've gone to is PAX. It was a bit overwhelming/stinky. I do tend to prefer the more "locals" ones, or ones that are more moderate in size. But I'd love to go to Dragon*Con, New York Comic Con, and Otacon once in my lifetime. This could be my chance!  I will definitely look into Tekko and Steel City Con.

My sister is moving to a small town in Pennsylvania not really that close to either Philadelphia or Pittsburg, but, everything seems super close compared to on the west coast.
