Are Waffles a Vegetable?
« on: April 11, 2016, 05:43:32 PM »
So I was at the grocery store to pickup some basics. OJ, ice cream treats, lettuce, carrots, bananas, and a rotisserie chicken for dinner.  I texted my husband, who was home, asking him what frozen veggies we had because the brand I like was on sale and we usually have veggies with the chicken. Plus I was pretty sure we had corn (his fav) and no peas (my fav).

His response: "We have corn, broccoli, and waffles"

So, I must now ask my arena friends, are frozen waffles a veggie???

(The frozen vegetables are kept on our freezer door. For some reason a box of frozen waffles ended up there too. Which is partly why my sarcastic hubbie stated they must be a veggie. )

No, I don't think so. If they were then stuff like bread and pasta would be, too. And we all know that isn't the case. :) I think it's the difference between a cucumber and a pickle.

Imagine, though! Growing waffles on farms or in gardens... I wonder if other breakfast foods would be the same? Fields of cinnamon roll sprouts, shoots of french toast from the ground, acres of pancakes and muffins... for once I feel these are oddly appropriate  :broc: :carrot: :cuke: :chili:

My husband maintains that waffles are closer to being a vegetable then brocolli (which he dislikes but I enjoy).

Wheat is a grain, waffles are a carbohydrate product. Although potatoes can bridge the gap from veg to carb, I don't know if I could allow waffles a pass. Although they are in the category of "eat some every day"... ;)

But to make waffles you can use vegetable oil as an ingredient.  And to make choccie waffles, cocoa powder that comes from beans and sugar from beets.  So yes, a veggie.

If you mean 'waffle' as a verb 'to waffle' then yes a waffle could be a vegetable cooked in such a manor. Vegetables made into a flour or flour-like substance/consistency (ex. mashed peas or corn flour) I would mostly count as a carbohydrate. Especially if it has to become a slurry mixture first. BTW, zucchini waffles with a buttery sriracha sauce and fried chicken is a wonderful meal.  :dribble:
Creatively cute and proud of it!  Have a very good day, [you]!  ^.^
