Jewellery for ponies?
« on: April 11, 2016, 03:58:36 AM »
I know some collectors and customisers make fantastic hair accessories for ponies.  What about jewellery?

In my pile of ponies needing re-hairs, there are a few where getting the head off has been more challenging, and now there's a distinct gap between hear and neck.  I thought the best way to cover up the gap would be with a pretty necklace :)

Has anyone made pony jewellery before?  especially necklaces in this case!  I have a bead shop nearby but to be honest I'm not really sure what I'm looking for.  And of course, what looks good on a human wouldn't necessarily suit a pony!  Are beads on stretchy clear elastic the way to go?  What about chains, charms, and sparkly diamonte-type things?  I had the idea of looking up children's bracelets on ebay.  Would a little girl's pretty beaded bracelet look tacky on a pony??  And what about the size of beads-- big or small?

(The pony I'm thinking of is a poor Tales Bright Eyes with a severe haircut... I actually have two of her, both needing something to hide neck gaps.  Some heads are just impossible to get off!)  The closest thing I've done is slip a pearl bracelet onto a Heart Throb.  The pearls suited her romantic nature, but I'm not so sure about a neon-bright pony like Bright Eyes.  Especially with green and orange... what goes with that?!

Any suggestions, examples, caveats or pictures would be appreciated!   :art:

Yes I have. I bought G3 Amazing Grace as a gift for my mother-in-law. My daughter and I used very small swarovski beads(4 mm maybe?) and a cross charm. We matched the beads to her hair color and used stretchy cord to place it over her head. It came out very cute! You should definitely try it!

Haven't thought about this before!!

Pony wear to cover up body stains but not jewelry to cover up neck problems!
hmm!

The jewellery I've made is connected with Customs - if that counts? =)
It's mostly earrings, tiaras and necklaces:

Tiara & necklace made of clay and wire:

And dunno if that goggles count (made of clay and wire - completely removeable) :D

I think the easiest way would be to make elasticated "necklaces" slightly smaller than adult human size so you can pop them over the ponies' heads easily.

You could make very intricate or simple jewelry out of seed beads as well. They're very versatile.

If it's Bright eyes, perhaps using ribbon to make a little collar and tie like a private school uniform
