This is a good question and from what I know many of us have been trying our hands at dying G4 again. I know that the older waves had some issues with taking rit dye evenly (especially G4 Rarity).
I assume you have seen this topic as you have mentioned the streaking?
http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,375358.0.htmlI would not suggest soaking a G4 in acetone, I've done that and it DOES cause the pony's body to shrink a bit.. I can't find the AJ I tested this on when I was trying to do something but it does cause a little hassle with getting the neck plug back in. My suggestion for the glue residue is to just swipe the pony's body several times with Acetone. Not sure how many times but the more times the better I say
As far as Rit itself, I used Rit Dyemore and while she ended up dark (I think she is darker in the photos than she originally was because I was taking photos with my phone) that was due to having her sit in the bath for the recommend 30 minutes.. however, it's been several months since I dyed here and she has lighten up quite a bit
