Were Indian ponies originally sold in India...

THis may seem like a stupid question, but it's one I never got to the bottom of when Indian ponies first started poking up 17 or 18 years ago, and I never have been back to find out.

Were they made for India or for an export market?

I recall BridgetsMom got her Indian ponies in India They came with pony wear, but they weren't in an official box. They were in an underwear box marked size XL

Hrm, thanks for that Reason I ask is that one of my very close friends is from India and is currently living in Delhi. I have wondered about asking her to keep an eye out for ponies, as she knows I collect, but I know they are hard to find, and I didn't want to put her on a wild goose chase.

The information that there is seems to suggest that they were sold there (BridgetMum's finds, I think snyfez got hers from there as well, plus I remember at least one collector talking about having them there), but there's not much of it out there!

I was hoping that you would post LadyG my memory was a little fuzzy, but I was sure I remember BM taking about her Indian ponies being bought there.

I tried looking at Indian eBay a looooong time ago, but got no joy.

My indian ponies were from a friend who originally got them from India (in MLP packaging). My Indian pony wear was bought in Nepal and also came in proper packaging. One can't help but think there must have been more of them sold there and they're waiting to be found.

Oh I definitely agree there are going to be more waiting to be found! The question is going to be where will they be found I never got up the nerve to ask when I had contacts out there

From what I understand there aren't things like thrift shops, I have heard of finding them in markets in India though, how widespread the distribution was would be interesting to know.

Maybe your friend could post a want add someplace? Good luck! its worth a try

I agree, they were for the Indian market and sold in India on Funskool branded cards. Funskool was a creation of Hasbro and MRF (yes the tyre company! lol) - they took lots of Hasbro lines to India everything from G1 Joe to MLP I think they claim to be the largest toy company in India now.
