Long G1 ribbons ID & general ribbon info

So I've finally gotten round to cleaning my lot of ribbons from honks ago and I'm having some trouble IDing them. Is there a good site anywhere that will let me see which ribbon goes with which pony? Or is it better to take photos and get help from all of you?

I also have a number of purple ribbons that are much longer than any of the others (though the width seems to be the same). Who do they belong to?

Long ribbons could be Fairy tail birds, they had the same ribbons, but longer.

The Baby Buggy with Baby Cuddles came with an extra long lavender ribbon. But it isn't for the pony; it's supposed to tie to the topper of the umbrella. I'm guessing this is the source of your long ribbons.

Thanks for that! I have my buggy packed away so I didn't think about its ribbon. I've checked greatponies.com but it's not so good on the ribbon side of things. Any other site suggestions?

Sadly there is not a lot of good ribbon info out there. Don't get too specific would be my advice some ribbons are. but most if you have the correct shade, and it's authentic g1 ribbon good enough. if it's a small childhood batch intact, and the shade looks slightly different then a MOC you saw, odds are that ribbon is still correct. 

SOME ribbons are consistent in colour, type of material and how it was cut/sealed. MANY others, (and I owned more then one of the same MOC that showed this) will vary. I had one powder MOC with a softer pink thinner double faced slick ribbon, and another MOC with a thicker material double faced ribbon in a much darker shade. Same with my two skyflier ponies MOC, different shades. and my molly sets MIB, shade differences but same types of fabrics. and the variations I found in small childhood lots where nothing was lost, and everything matched up perfectly to ponies.  (I am way too caught up in specifics.... you don't want to have that frustration!)

Thanks guys! I know generally what to look for in genuine mlp ribbons as I already have a few I know for sure. I'm really looking for a good basic guide to find out what colour ribbon goes with what point, I realise that might not be so simple as ribbons tend to fade but I figure if I can get the majority sorted out I can always ask here again about the ones I'm unsure of.

Have you tried Ponyland Tours?  There are a lot of MOC/MIB pictures showing the ribbons there.

Yes, I second Ponyland Tours! In addition to that, there's Lady Twilight's Accessories, which has a page on ribbons; according to it, the longer ribbons belonged to the Brush 'n Grows. I know ribbons can be a pain . . . I was just trying to look up a purple ribbon tonight. Good luck trying to ID a pink or purple ribbon!

The brush and grows ribbons may be longer but they are also MUCH thicker than the average pony ribbon. I don't think any of these fit that bill.

Yeah, I have a few BNG ribbons and they're fatter/thicker as well as long so I know the ones I have aren't them but if I didn't know better I would have agreed.
