Thrift Store G3's - Whats worth it?
« on: March 04, 2016, 08:09:29 AM »
So I don't collect G3 and know little about them, but I do thrift store hunt semi regularly and find a lot of them. Is there any easy guidance of what is worth buying or do I really need to know them well to know what to get? Yesterday I left some early year ones, babies and some pink peg's (hidden treasure? I figure if there are three in a bag she is common) is there anything simple that I can keep in mind, like buy all unicorns or don't bother with early years. are the big styling ones worth getting (I normally buy those because my toddler plays with them).

Help me G3 experts! I hate to think I'm leaving good stuff behind, but I know a lot of them (minty) are worth less that the thrift charges to rescue them.

The yellow and blue unicorns (worth about $10 on eBay if you use Buy It Now).  Not much else, to be honest.  G3s are really hard to sell.

Anchor's Away is considered rare and htf.  I don't know what she's going for but she was only available in one playset at Cosco so a lot of people didn't get her and want her. I found her at a local thrift store for $0.50 so it is possible to find rare ones in the wild.

Strawberry Reef also has this list, but I don't know actual prices for any of the ponies on it.

Guava Lava from the Surf Shop used to be worth a bit too, but I think her value has dropped.

Oh, also Minty in good shape sells pretty quickly for $5, usually. Which isn't a lot, but might be a slight profit.

Strawberry Reef's list is excellent, except Thistle Whistle has dropped sharply in value.

Be sure to check the symbols of any Pinkie Pie's (in her first pose) that you see.  Hasbro accidentally did a run of Pinkies with her exclusive Licensing Show cutie mark, which were sold in regular shows like Toys R Us, etc.  :)

I believe the most valuable G3 ponies would be the ones exclusive to certain stores (Anchors Away, Beach Belle, Caribbean Delight, etc), ones from conventions like SDCC or ones only sold outside the US (Rainbow Bubbles, Snowdrop Swirl, etc).

I thought that the big unicorn Cheerilee was worth a bit more too?

I agree with the above ones listed.

Also, any birth flowers, which were TRU exclusives, are worth a decent amount.  :)

Its not so much they are not worth purchasing...its that you need patience for the re sell. Dont expect to pick them up and sell on quickly. As long as you are picking them up for $1 or less each you will manage to sell on without the situation costing you too much.

But unless they are birthflowers or Caribbean Delight/Beach Belle or any of the exclusive limited releases value is going to be anywhere from $2-6 normally.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
