Pc - G1 backcards - Rough guide??
« on: February 27, 2016, 10:55:57 AM »
Can anyone give me a rough idea of what G1 backcards are worth? I know they will vary for rarer ones but what do you charge or expect to pay for them?

Most of the ones I have are later UK ones if that makes any difference?

Thanks! X

I honestly don't know what the recognised price range is, especially for UK ones. In my experience I've paid more for the early ones (1988 and before, depending on set, some are very hard to find :-/) but there doesn't seem to be a LOT of people collecting them, esp not UK ones specifically. So sometimes they go for cheap and sometimes not...

I absolutely know that the reason the lot of packages I bought a year or so ago went much higher just because Tornado's card and bubble were included.

I collect backcards, esp UK ones, so if you are looking to get rid of yours I'd be super-interested to know what you have (although I'm mostly looking for specific sets/ponies). I'll leave attempting to price range them to someone else though.

As a rough estimate, I've never tried to buy any cards from 1992-3 and 1993-4 years because all the ones we have are from childhood, but I imagine some of them might be sought after (Jewellery Baby and such). Bordered ones seem more common and less popular. Anything pre-border...depends probably on the ponies...

Thanks for the input!

It has given me a starting point at least. I have sent my list to someone who is interested in buying mine but if there are any they don't want I will send you a pm

Usually the harder to find the pony is, the higher the value the backcard will have....make sense I guess :)

Backcards can be a bit subjective - to some they have next to no value but to others they are worth paying for. Most of the more common ones can be $1-2 but the harder to find UK ones could be up at the $6-7 mark if you have very hard to finds.

If I had been able to obtain some of the harder to find cards I had for $6-7 I would be a very happy pony :P

Taking the obvious high shooters like Mountain Boys from the equation, I imagine that, to someone who collects packages, there are some that would probably end up costing more.

There are a few rarer UK cards/boxes I'd pay $20-30 for in decent condition, just because this is my Nirvana and I am looking so specifically now for set examples that really rarely come up. And it isn't necessarily the ponies that you'd think. The ponies might not be that special, but if their packaging was unique to the UK, and you have a few people trying to replace something from childhood...yeah. Then they go higher.

I have seen them go for more than that, though. At least, with UK cards. There are some that may not even exist any more...I found one that I thought had become extinct just this last week, so yeah. I think it would be lovely to pay $6-7 for them. But realistically, for certain cards, esp if you went to ebay...the price is going to be a lot higher.
