Hey guys, I got a reply from TLS a few days after I sent them a private message on Facebook. I was mostly saying what others here were saying about design issues and also being blind boxed. I suggested doing packaging similar to the re-release collector ponies.
Here's their reply:

"Thanks for contacting!  With regard to the ponies shown at NYTF, these were just paint samples.  We're still in design mode, so trust that many of your suggestions will be addressed. 

Also, we're not married to packaging--just making great product.  MLP Wave 1 will indeed be a blind boxed figure, but we may offer them within window packaging as well.  We've done so with all other lines in the past.

Thanks again for the support, and I hope we can continue to earn it.

I've asked them about online and EU retail availability via FB, and got a reply yesterday:

"Hello Lea,
Thanks for contacting, and expressing interest in our upcoming MLP line.  The figures are not up for sale quite yet, but should be sometime this Summer.  Once available - you'll definitely be able to purchase online, but please stay tuned for more release information.
We appreciate the support, and do hope we can continue to earn it!

I do hope we can look forward to your support in the future.

They're a small company, so I think it's easier to get messages to the designers than with a large company like Hasbro.

Originally they said Spring of 2016 but the official word was July 1st. So hopefully somewhere around there.
