My Little Manatees

Manatees are my favourite animals. I love the way they look, the way they move and interact. The other day, my friend, Pseudomonas, and I were talking about a manatee sanctuary. The people working there had given the manatees names. I don't remember what they were, but I didn't think they were very fitting. I thought manatees should have names like Shadow Dancer and Mystique, names alluding to their grace. Pseudomonas argued that those more sounded like names of "My Little Manatees"... and the idea was born.

I've only taken up drawing very recently, and I'm still developing my style, but I do like the way they came out.

These three were among the first I drew, simply in pencil with highlights in gel pen.

Here are my OCs, Hope and Destiny (who's normally purple, but my coloured crayons didn't come with purple, hence the colour change). Again, it's pencil, this time outlined in pen and coloured in. I think this is the technique I'll stick with.

Next, I'm planning to do a few superhero manatees. Here's a quick sketch of one: Batmanatee!

Ah cute, I would though erase the line between their body and their tails, it ruins the flow and I think they would look so much cuter with out it.

Oh they are so cute! I agree with Diamond on the tails though, but you're off to a great start! I love the cute little bows.   One of my friends is a huge manatee fan.

The bows are super cute and I love all the names! Also agreeing with Griffin and Diamond here. Don't ever be afraid to pull up pictures of manatees on your computer / tablet / phone / etc. while your draw them to take a look at too. Trust me, it helps

*lol* When I first started drawing them, I had the Wikipedia page on Manatees open, so I could look at the pictures. I want to study pictures of manatee families next, so after the superheroes, I'll be able to draw some Loving Families.

Omg, they are cute! I got to see wild manatees back when I lived in Florida. They would gather in the warmer waters near the power plant in the winter.
