A couple months ago I bought some used curio with the intentions of painting them.  After much thought however, I chose not to paint them with a heavy heart.  I don't really have the time or place, and from a financial point of view, I would not be able to get very much for them down the road.  Granted they were used to begin with, they still costs me a pretty dime.

Here is one of the risers I made

Sunbeam is playing Vanna White.  I have never really paid much attention to her, but she is a very pretty, understated pony.  Her pose is perfect.  Eyes looking up as she swirls her hoof around in the ground.  Such a playful filly!

Still trying to figure out how to do the rainbow for the arch  :wonder:

Not sure if I am really liking the polka-dots.  Will have to see once it is all put together.

Your raisers look great.  Me personally I would take the decals off, they do nothing for me and for me would detract from the ponies in the cases.  Also if you are thinking of reselling those cases (which are way cool and I like the look of) down the road, decals can leave residue and ruin finishes depending upon how long they are on and how much sun the cases get.

I agree with Diamond. The dots would take away from the lovely ponies inside:) The curio is very pretty and looks great with your risers though.

I agree, too. The colors in the decals and in a rainbow will draw attention away from the ponies. Have you thought about led's above each shelf? As long as you can turn them off they seem to last forever and are easy on the ponies. It would make the color on the cabinet less prominent. It's your display, so what's really best is your happiness with it. I'd be careful with sunbeam. She seems to like having it all to herself. ;)

Thank you both for confirming what I was thinking with the dots being distracting/just not looking good.  I was blinded by the amount of money I spent on those silly polka-dots and wanted to use them.

I did not even think about the damage they could create!  Thank you for bringing that up!

led lights, good thought Tak.  Will look into that before I get my cases filled up

I really like the mirror backs.  You can show off part of both sides of your ponies!  It's really looking great.  You'll have to post an update with them filled with ponies =)

They are lovely - I like how colourful and cheerful they are. If I was  you I would just protect the ponies feet and hair from the paper/fabric they are standing on; its worrying how quickly the dyes can stain. :)

You should keep a running thread and update it with your progress...that way people will be able to see how you have got on since starting.

I avoided paper because of that, but fabric too?  Thats ok, already have a plan-strips of plexiglass.  Call me MacGyver!

Mine's not nearly as pretty. Just unfinished hardwood risers on glass shelves. I'm excited to see how yours turns out. I'm sure it'll be great.

Fabric not as bad as paper...but it will depend on how colour fast it is :) But you are already ahead of the game if you are making sure the plexi glass is between pony and the colour! Nice one.

If you wash the fabric first (be sure to put some vinegar into the machine as it helps to fixate the colour) it usually shouldn't bleed out. I have no idea if anyone has tried this yet with their collection, it's just my experience from working with fabrics hobby wise.

Just check your plexiglass, see if it is acid free, glass is actually better, more breakable, but less chemicals used in manufacture of it.
