Is it okay to use some hairspray on a ponies curls if you want them to stay looking good? Or no?

Don't know of any quantified evidence that hairspray specifically is bad for nylon, but generally speaking, adding any chemicals to an unstable material like plastic isn't a good idea.  Why risk it?

If you need curls to stay, boil perm.  It's safe and long lasting, only takes hot water.

I second the boil perm, no hairspray. Besides. If it gets humid, your pony's hair will get sticky and gather more dust.

Thirded on the Boil Perm.  Nylon hair is much more malleable than human hair, and can be molded accordingly with just a bit of conditioner and heat.  At best hairspray yellows, gets sticky, or flakes over time.  It's not usually hugely detrimental from what I've seen, but it does eventually get kinda gross and will need to be cleaned out.

I actually have used hairspray on a G4 Lemony Gem with sucess. Her curls were so perfect out of the box and I didn't think I could quite replicate it with a boil perm, so I decided to just try it. I think it's been a couple years, and it still looks great, but of course there's no saying what she may look like a long time from now. I didn't find she collected dust worse than her surrounding pony friends. Her hair is still a lovely blue, very shiny, and perfectly styled so I have no regrets. I think I used Aussie hairspray. Still, it's always a risk adding anything to ponies that will say on them long term.

When I was a kid I used hair spray on my G2 ponies and when they ended up put up for good it was still on them. I tried washing them, but some of them still have crunchy hair and look kind of shiny? I wouldn't do it unless you used it sparingly.

I'd go with the boil perm method too. It keeps the curls in place for quite a while and is easy to redo if needed.  :)

Another vote for boil perm.  I've had a lot of success with it and then you won't have the worry about the hair drying out or getting sticky from the product.

the biggest issue to me is no mater how careful you are with the spray, there's really no way to be certain it won't touch the body, and vinyl has/develops enough issues without using chemicals on it that will be left on for a long time. Hair can always be replaced, but the bodies break down enough as it is.:)

Hairsprays are also designed for natural hair, not synthetic, right?  If you really want a spray to use on ponies, maybe look into a spray designed for use with synthetic wigs.

Dont use hair spray :) In fact avoid any kind of styling products as it will damage nylon hair over time. As others have suggested use something like warm water and patience to get the same effect. Its a bit more time consuming and its certainly not as effective but its not going to damage hair so well worth doing.

I used hairspray on some fashion star fillies a little over 10 years ago. They seem to not have any ill effects and they still have their curls after years and years in storage.

I have used hairspray on my ponies when I first started to collect, mainly on the ones with curls in their hair. But I did take care for it not to touch their body. This was a few years ago now and the curls are still In tacked even after mass storage and a house move.

But I would avoid using it unless you really have to for all the reasons said by the others.
