White Windy?
« on: December 29, 2015, 07:36:47 AM »
OK, I ran across a pony that I thought might be a white variant of Windy. One problem, I thought the white variant had blue symbols? This one has purple symbols. But she is definitely white and not faded. I am including pictures. What is her value if she is a white variant?

White Windy is a tricky one.

I own a "white" Windy, but I don't believe her to have been made that way. I think the "White" Windy's are similar to the "White" Bluebell's and have suffered some sort of dye loss.

My "white" Windy has blue symbols, but I have seen lots of "white" Windy's with purple symbols too

Have you popped her head off at all? My Windy has very slight traces of lilac in her neck join.

There are lots of pictures in the nirvana gallery :)

As for a value, I'd suggest $60

I agree, "white" Windy is not a variant the way white Tootsie is--more like white Blue Belle.  Windy is a very pale lavender, so when she has dye loss she turns "white".  She is very pretty, though!  :)

I just assume that it's batch related. My childhood Windy (she was my first pony) has faded, and you can see where the beige was once lavender around joins and such in places. We've one loose Windy who's a beautiful lavender...and then one which is a whiter colour. She's not really"white" , though...

These are the comparison pics I took for mine, which looks like yours...

Blue symbols to me suggests more likely to have faded than not, because purple stuff often fades to blue with too much sunlight. As you can probably tell, though, I don't really believe in the "White Windy" mythology ;) It's one of those things that's down to individual collectors to decide, but I think it's a rumour created due to batch variations and some Windy getting a more fast  - or deeper - dye than others.

I included my childhood one from 1984 in the pictures because I don't think the paler one has faded. I think she was always like that, or very similar - but I don't really think it's more significant than just batch.

Yes, mine looks just like your pale Windy. I can't find a single trace of lavender on her. I think she's very pretty like this.

I once thought I had a true white Windy. She even has the blue symbol with the paint beneath:

However, a little poking around showed me that she still had some lavender dye in her nooks and crannies.   She's a very deceptive pony.  Since then, I've seen ones that were faded through and through.   I'm also of the opinion that it's just a weak dye that was used in this particular batch.  I will say I've seen more faded or "white" Windys come from European locations than in the USA.

Windy was sold here in 84 and 85 so no surprise there would be diff batches. Mine came from a uk car boot.

I have never seen a windy of any colour without paint under the symbol, though...confused by that as my childhood one slso has a paint swirl under the glitter and so do both our others...

To see just how varied Windy's symbols can be, I put together this folder a long time ago:

Babies Moondancer, Glory, Firefly and Surprise were made with and without paint under the glitter too.   I've have Parasol versions too.

Hm. I dont want to take this off topic but I am now curious. I knew about this for WB Confetti; have never really studied the other Rainbiw ponies sold here, though. I now wonder if it is a later feature, paint...since our 1st set rainbows stretched into 1985.

We never had the babies here, but, considering the paint only versions, that seems more logical...

Wow, ashlyne, that lavender Windy is incredible!  Just lovely!  She's the most purple Windy I've ever seen.  I wonder if she got an extra dose of dye or something?  Most of the Windys that have passed through my hands have been a light, grey-ish lavender.

This is actually the first all-white one I have found. Most of the ones that come through my hands are a pale lavender. I've even had a couple that are a more rich lavender like Ashlyn's.

Our loose lavender one (which actually belongs to my mother, LOL) is pretty purple, too. I can't find my pale one at the moment, it's somewhere in the back of the shelf that, if I touch it, everything will fall on me, so I can't scrutinise her again - but while my childhood one is faded and you can see the lavender and the not...the paler one I think was uniform. It might just be a paler batch, or a dye that didn't set as fast...

My childhood one spent a lot of time outside, and going to places with me like school...I had her from when I was 2 so if there were any opportunities for her to fade, or for the dye in her plastic to get damaged, I'm sure my childhood was it. Yet she's not as pale as the paler one, which is why I think it's batch.

The symbol thing I find more interesting. I have two parasols, and they have different body tones, but I can't get at them, either, right now...

Just like ashlyne's pony she has traces of lilac in places :)

There are more pictures in the nirvana gallery if you wish to look.

I think it was a batch error of some sort and some ponies just faded. I don't doubt that environmental factors could exacerbate this to an extent too.

There are a lot of interesting things going on with the rainbows. You have glitter and paint vs glitter, red stripe vs pink stripe and with some you have large vs small symbols.

Nothing is straight forward!
