Pony paper-mache deer

It's a bit of a tradition that my mother and I decorate a paper-mache deer for the holidays. We usually use a collage of old wrapping paper and this year I had something special to use, anyone recognise it?

We also have another deer to decorate because my mother likes traditional designs over ponies, lol.

Sounds like a fun tradition! Do you keep them all? I'd love to see a picture of your collection.

Cool-  did you make the deer frame yourself?  What do you do with them when you are done?  Ever thought of changing the tradition to paper mache unicorns?

I've never done paper mache and I've always wanted to.

What a great tradition and a cool way to use old wrapping paper. My dad has been re-using the same wrapping paper since I was a kid *__* I think this year was the end of it. If only I had seen this sort of thing earlier, I could of preserved it!

I love that tradition!  How fun.    I think the pony paper looks adorable.  Especially the way you did the eyes.  Do you keep them all after you finish?  That would be a great collection, I'm sure!

We haven't done it long enough to have a large collection. We buy the blank deers from assorted art stores but some years they are hard to find, or we've simply been too busy. We've got 3 deers and a kangaroo so far, plus another deer waiting for decorating. I am determined to make this a proper tradition and do it every year til we can't fit gifts under the tree for all the deers!

@Galactica - a unicorn is a great idea, I might just add a horn to the next one.

I had been thinking of getting those Christmas lit outdoor ponies- and modifying it to make a unicorn instead. I think need a herd of Christmas unicorns    Who doesn't right?
