Animation ideas?
« on: December 24, 2015, 06:39:42 PM »
I'm trying to learn animation and need ideas for things I can animate for practice. Any of you have any ideas?  :what:

(warning: I'm a little sleepy right now and may not be entirely coherent.)
Cannot have anything scented in the house, unfortunately. Seeking the unscented, magnetless variant of Thistle Whistle. (And wishing the other Sunny Scent ponies got similar ones, because they're lovely. *sigh*)

If it's 2D animation you're doing, you could choose a character to work with and start off with some walk cycles, turnarounds or lip syncing to funny audio clips. If you're doing stop motion stuff, then you could get together some objects and make them interact with one another; heck, the first animation I ever made through that method was a toy cat running around a brass palm tree! XD Also if you need a program for compiling frames, then Monkeyjam does a good job, although it's not very advanced in technical terms; you can make a really nice, smoothly flowing animation at 24 frames per second. Hope that helps! :)

Learning walk cycles and lip syncing is good! I also recommend things like a bouncing ball, squash and stretch, and perspective all with basic shapes. Never be afraid to reference.

You can find really nice animation books, I have The Animators Survival Kit which is great. I also have an Osamu Tezuka animation book on animals that has a lot of animal walk cycles. I hope you have fun, animation is such a wonderful thing  :)
