Pony Glossary
« on: December 03, 2015, 01:07:40 PM »
So I've been working on my pony blog, which as I mentioned in a post in the Nirvana forum, is meant to be a sort of informative inventory of my collection. I just added a glossary, but I'd love some input from other collectors! Are there any common terms or initialisms you think I missed?

Oh, I love that you've made this glossary (and am a little surprised that I didn't think of it myself)! It looks pretty thorough -- if I think of anything I'll let you know. :)

Nice work!

The only thing that springs to mind is PACS (Play and Care Set). Since the term has been adopted for all of these early baby pony sets now, not just the UK released ones, I've seen this abbreviation appear more and more.

There is also NBBE but it's a hideous term, and PACS is more correct...up to you.

I also don't know if it's too specific, but many of us refer to Cherries Jubilee as "CJ" when discussing her on forum...

Edit to add, just made a post. Did you have MB (Mountain Boy) on your list?

I know it's a pretty generically used acronym, but I saw that you have an ISO picture and noticed that there's no definition for "ISO". :) I think I might have some other suggestions, but I'm giving the list a closer look-over. Oh, and if you're listing various fakies, you might add "Talk to Me Pony" -- this is the vintage fakie made by the Buddy L company that, when squeezed, neighs and makes a galloping sound (picture here: https://www.instagram.com/p/-2doJtKTxJ/?taken-by=ringwraith10). Maybe also Tokidoki Unicorno? (Another picture: https://www.instagram.com/p/-2dyuaqTxY/?taken-by=ringwraith10)

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I'm adding them now.

ringwraith, I didn't realize the Buddy L Corp ponies had a special name for that release! I have the pink one, but could never remember what it was called until I came to the Arena years ago, haha  :work:

ETA: I added some specific fakie brands that I see pop up a lot, and also added Takara. Also added "ISO," "PACS," and "MB." I decided not to add CJ for Cherries Jubilee, just because so many individual pony names can be shortened like that, that it would go on forever haha!

I actually didn't know the name, either, until I got one MOC. It's a well-kept secret, apparently. :)

Great glossary!  The only term I might add is "reverse symbol." I had a hard time finding anything about it here or on the wiki.  :|

G4zilla is for the size above the Fashion size. It is not synonymous.

Dollar General [DG] babies - Fakies in the newborn G1 style but a little smaller than the original. Comes in a wide range of colors and are used by many to make customs.

Princess Rinse and Spit [PRnS] - Similar in body to Posey, this G1 fakie sometimes came with yarn hair or the ability to make noise. While I don't remember what brand she was originally she's been renamed by the community that oft times covets her for her comically open mouth.

I've got Crumpets, SHS fakies, and others but DG babies and PRnS I thought needed to be included for fakie-kind.  :P
Creatively cute and proud of it!  Have a very good day, [you]!  ^.^

Thanks! I thought I remembered there being one, but it was VERY late when I decided to do this for my blog, lol, so I couldn't quite recall where it was.

I know they're different; I didn't say that they were the same.  ;)  :P

I'll definitely be adding the DG babies and PRnS, though - thanks!

I think that would be to a link or a picture with examples.

 This is why I shouldn't post past bedtime. I'm sorry. I think I meant to say that while you defined Fashion Size and G4zilla you didn't define Styling Size leading to the conclusion that the first two terms were synonymous.

And, fakies everywhere cry out in glee.  :P

haha, yeah, that's why I made sure to include "mid-sized" in my definition of FS, but I didn't think to make an entry for styling size - I'll be adding one now, though. You never know what might be unclear to someone else! This is exactly the reason I wanted to crowdsource for input, so no worries!
