Backcards?
« on: December 02, 2015, 08:48:16 PM »
Am I right to assume that the Nirvanas all had backcard stories like the regular releases in the US and UK? Or did only some have proper backcard stories? Were they the same as either the US or UK?

I've started working on my pony blog, which is to be an informative inventory of my collection, and I got to thinking about this since I took photos of my Italians this morning.  I've seen random photos of some Nirvana backcards or MOC/MIB, but they're always either blurry, small, or don't show the back where the story would be!

If anyone has good quality scans or photos of Italian Bubbles and/or Seashell's backcards, I would love to see them! I have the versions with the "normal," freckled head - not the CP head versions. I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

It really depends on the pony and the country of origin! Some did and some didn't. Of those that did, they generally aren't the same as US or UK stories, even if you take the language out of the equations. With Italian ponies as well, you have the added complication that these were sold in multiple countries, so would have had different stories (language-wise at least) depending on where they were being issued!

I do have Italy Seashell's Danish backcard to hand. Have her on French/Dutch card as well, but not got a pic of that right now.

I will see if I can get a picture of my Seashell's back card :)

From what I remember some of the stories are slightly different.. I could be remembering wrong though

Thanks, guys! LadyGuinevere, what a beautiful scan! I just love G1 art - I wonder if any children were ever curious about why their ponies looked different from the ones on the backcard (blaze on the art vs freckles on their pony, haha)!

Now I'm wondering whether there's any way to tell an Italian pony who was released in Italy from an Italian pony who was released somewhere else - is this where the regular head vs CP head comes in, or was that just a factory difference, possibly? I'm sorry for all the questions, I really don't know too much yet about Nirvanas!

I never even considered that even though they were produced in Italy, that the different language backcards might all have slightly different stories! How interesting. I hope someone might have a nice scan or photo of an Italian pony's Italian language backcard.  :hope:

I don't think there is a way to tell by looking at the pony if it was made for export of not. The lack of PAT PENDING would give you an idea to if it was pre or post 1987-1988.

Italy ponies were exported and sold all over Europe :) French, Germany, Belgium to name a few and each had there own language on the card. There are plenty of pictures in the nirvana gallery ;)

The CP head sitting ponies are quite hard to find, so I don't think they are export related. Italy ponies were pretty much hand finished, which is why you get so many variations with the symbols. We still don't understand where those CP heads fit in, but Moondancer and Re-Unicorno can both be found with proud pose (Moonstone) head. There are also all the other peculiar variations too....lots of pictures in the link ;)

Here is the front of my Seashell's card :) it's partly in French as it was the Belgium release.

If I'm thinking right an Italy pony sold in Italy would be on a DAG card/box? The hippy or hoppy pony card :) they also may well have been sold "loose" in boxes with no packing. Here is a link to a hippy/hoppy card :)

I know LadyG has Italy white Tootsie on a hoppy pony card :) I'm hoping she. An enlighten us as to what's on the back :)

There were the stables boxes as well, which are quite unique.

There is some info here on DAG which you might find useful :bigups:

Thanks, pkw! I've seen photos before of ponies in that little stable bubble, it's so cute! I just have never seen any photos of what's printed on the platform bit that the pony is sitting on!

It would be nice if I could know for sure whether my girls were put on the Italian market or exported somewhere else, but the fact that they were manufactured in Italy is Italian enough for me - I don't mind if they emigrated.  :silly:

Mostly, I'm interested in the backcard stories! I'd love to include backcard stories for each pony in my collection when I make their post on my blog, but I can't find any photos or even transcriptions of the Italian stories for Bubbles or Seashell! That's why I am really hoping I might get lucky here.  :P

I have an Italy Bowtie on French card I can check.
As for that Danish card - that is not Seashell's backstory. Just a generic story about ponies

Ah, okay :) Clearly I need schooling in Danish! It's the analogue for her backstory ;)

From what I remember the South Africans had a generic story as well :) it is in English and Afrikaans.  I am certain I have the story saved somewhere so I will share it when I find it.

The stable boxes don't have a story on the bottom, just drawings of the ponies and their names :)

Since the Italian ponies were exported, I guess the only way to know you are buying a pony intended for the Italian market would be to buy her from Italy.

I wouldn't have known the difference, either, LadyGuinevere! haha I don't know any Danish.

And pkw, that is good to know about the stable boxes! As for that link you shared, I've seen that backcard photo before - it's just so blurry that I can't read it at all.    :(

Here is the story for the SA back card :)

"Hello, I'm a cute pony.
I love adventure and making new friends.
Please be my friend, and comb and braide my long
silky hair and tie it with ribbon."

The story is repeated below in the Afrikaans language.

LOL! Yes, yes you ARE a cute pony!  :silly:

Does anyone know if the Italian language backcards say the same thing?
