Crimped hair...
« on: October 27, 2015, 02:32:49 PM »
What should I do about Sweet Notes' factory-crimped hair?

Here is how she looked when I pulled her out of the storage box:

Here she is after wetting her hair with cool water:

It still looks quite frizzy.  Should I try conditioning it with cool water :what:
I'd like to save the crimping if possible, but it doesn't look very good right now...

Crimped hair from my experience absolutely can be conditioned, even with hot water; the crimps hold very well. However, with the amount of frizz yours has, I'm not sure it'll help. But definitely, I'd try it.

Definitely condition it!  Here is what I would do to fix her frizzy hair:

Wet her hair and slather it in a thick conditioner.  Brush out with a wide tooth comb and let it sit overnight.  Next day, rinse it out, run the wide tooth comb over it again,  and let it air dry.  She should look worlds better!

Don't be afraid to run a comb through it- but ONLY when it's wet and heavily conditioned!

Thanks!!  I'll have a go at it with some conditioner.  :)

I agree that Sweet Notes' crimp is surprisingly resilient. I found one in the wild with straightened, frizzy hair, so I gave her the usual hot water and conditioner treatment. Since I wasn't concerned with preserving the non-existent crimp, I thought I'd at least try to get her frizz under control, and I was actually pretty aggressive about it. To my surprise, a lot of the crimp seemed to magically bounce back afterward!

I bet she'll look miles better after you give her a good conditioning. :bigups: Good luck!

I agree :) It holds really well (no where near as my crimped hair in the 80s :P) As long as you dont go near it with a flat iron you will be fine! She is super cute!

Maybe I'm weird, but I feel like hair that is crimped AND big just looks extra '80s/early '90s to me, lmao so I would probably have considered leaving this one alone a bit.  :silly:

In all seriousness, though, I think you did a great job taming the frizz!

I've had some success in the past with fizzy hair by wetting or down with hot or warm water . Combing it  out and the putting the still wet hair  between a folded over towel /tea towel and carefully   ironing it  on a med to low setting.

Yeah, but you don't want to iron crimped hair if you're trying to save the crimping.

aweesome job! almost totally saved :0 i think that even if you lost the factory crimp, it would be possible to re-crimp. iirc, the middle layer of most thick cardboard has a sort of zig-zagging pattern. so if you lost it or were starting to lose it, you could take some real thick cardboard insides and sandwich the hair in that. just a thought, i don't have any crimped Ponies so i'm not totally sure '<';;;;

A really low heat crimping iron would work too. As long as the hair doesn't get over a certain temperature.
