Is this the same as the box set that was released several years ago?

It is more or less the same.  I think it also includes season 2 which the previous release didn't.

I like my old version better, though, even though it has inaccurate art on the box.  The old version has a "play as a movie " option for all of the multi part episodes.   The new box release doesn't have that option.

Is there any other way to get season 2? If not is it worth buying again to get season 2?

Previously, season 2 was released on two different DVD collections.  The first one called the Quest of the Princess Ponies and other stories.  The second was Flight to Cloud Castle and other stories.  I don't think they would be too hard to track down on Amazon if you don't mind used. And to be honest, season two's quality goes down hill pretty fast.

It's up to you whether it would be worth buying the new one.  I personally thought about it just because I liked the artwork on the newer one better.  But I checked out the newer release from my public library first and decided to just stick with my old one.

Thanks for all the information. Being a kid when they orginally aired I couldn't remember where season 2 began. So it turns out I have them both and there is no need to buy this one. I wouldn't have realized that before buying them again without your help.

I have both versions and I still haven't watched the new release yet. I'm just used to my old box set that I've had forever. :)

I think its going to come down to what you can pick the old releases up for - they were getting rather pricey. This newer release has helped drop the value but it may still be cheaper to pick up a complete release.
