Oxiclean bath for Greek nirvanas"
« on: September 23, 2015, 11:58:04 AM »
Hi all,

My "in a sorry state Greeks" arrived today. They are very pretty but also very dirty. Is it safe to give them an Oxiclean bath? I am just worried about causing more damage to their already very splodgy bleeding/fading symbols.

Thanks.

a magic eraser will pull off dirt easy as with a toothbrush and soap, I only use oxi clean to get rid of mould or ingrained dirt in ponies but alas I have never used it with greek ponies so I am not sure. yay your lots is here :)

Ok, I won't risk it then (have images of putting ponies in bath and them just disintegrating).  Soap and toothbrush it is. I have not had much luck with magic erasers, I think it might be a brand thing?

And yes my lot arrived, I love them.  Husband (who is Greek I might add) looked at them with disdain but I think they are really pretty.  Waiting to see what they look like after a bath  :) One day I will convince him to let me buy some minty -er  ones!

Thanks for advice  :)

I'd use magic eraser too - I haven't found one that doesn't work on ponies yet - you just have to be sure to squeeze out all the water before you rub the pony.

The only thing I'd be a little concerned about with oxyclean is if teh symbols are already bleeding then it might make it worse?

I use a tooth brush and tooth paste to clean my ponies.

Good luck with yours :)

I use a toothbrush and washing up liquid to clean all my ponies and it gets most dirt and marks off.

Be care with the eyes and symbols, the Greek paints do seem to be delicate.

If they are especially grubby you may need to bath them twice!

Just wanted to say thanks for all the advice.  Ponies have been washed and scrubbed with washing liquid and toothbrush.  One of them had really bad ingrained dirt in her feet so I dunked her feet only into Oxiclean for just a few seconds and that seemed to work really well without any adverse effects. Oh and have now perfected the magic eraser technique (I think I had them too wet).

Greek ladies are looking l think as well as they are going to without re painting and rehairing. One of the peachys looked like half her tail was missing but in fact it was just caught up inside her so that was a plus,  I will add a tail to the one who doesn't have one.  They are though...ehem..unique..but for what I paid for them and how much I love them I think it's all good :)

I usually use boiling water, a dash of bleach and give them "short" bath 20 minutes. Beware sombolos and eyes, do not rub with brush if no dirt in those areas. I actually give them only if they are dirty brush throughout the body, otherwise the rub with soap and ready.
