Cleaning My Pretty Pony Peachy? Pics.
« on: September 07, 2015, 06:07:29 AM »
I came across this My Pretty Pony in le wild. She's actually in great shape with no cracks. Unfortunately she's got some discoloration/yellowing. Has anyone had luck with cleaning a MPP with this problem? I've seen some tutorials for yellowed plastic consoles and electronics. Should I try one, risk ruining her but possibly restore her to NM condition?

I haven't experimented on type of plastic before. It's so fragile and different from the plastic of her counterparts. Most tutorials that I've checked as well were to bring the plastics back to a white tone. I'm not sure about this one as you're trying to just tone down the yellowing a bit. I assume sun-fading would just worsen things.
(I'd be interested in her though if you have a trade list...)

I haven't owned one but if you want to, maybe you could try your treatment of choice on a small unnoticeable area first (inner leg, belly, bottom of hoof...) to see if it works?

I've used that Salon 40 Developing Cream on this pony and it does work.  It should take care of the yellowing, but keep in mind that because of the sun exposure that's already happened, you've already lost some of the pink that used to be there. Removing the yellow won't restore her to her original pink color, but it will expose the pink color that's left.

I used the method mentioned above (using the yellowed electronics tutorials) but found that she began to discolour again months after the treatment even with no exposure to sunlight. She hasn't gone back to how bad she was, I could repeat the treatment but it does risk damaging her plastic.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do! ^.^

(Random aside, did anyone see the MIP Pink Pretty Pony on eBay a few months back? I drooled over her pics and almost cried 'cause I missed the chance to bid) :P
