Uneven hair - always a sign it has been cut?
« on: September 03, 2015, 03:03:23 AM »
Hello all,

from your experience, is there unevenly cut hair like this directly from the factory?

This baby's hair is 8cm in the front, 7,3cm in the middle and again 8cm in the back of her mane.
Her tail has a length of 9,7 cm.
What is your opinion/experience on this?

I have this exact same pony and she has a similar problem with an extra long section in her tail and I don't know weather it's been cut or not. I think in the mane if you comb it a lot if it's been really tangled it can stretch some of the hairs making it uneven.

Ive seen ponies with uneven hair in the past years and from my experience it does not always mean that the hair has been cut. Some of my own childhood ponies have the same problems and I know I never ever cut their hair (except for Beach ball, she had a frizzy mess I called her hair lol so she had to have a date with my scissors....) Also ive seen ponies with different length of hair without any signs of it being cut or something.
I also second ArtyAmy on that,... during the years the hair can become uneven if it is combed a lot. :)

I think it's quite common for the hair to be uneven without it having been cut, mane and tail. Just yesterday I was looking at my childhood Magic Hat's tail (I had him from new-he's a boy in my herd!) which is a whole centimetre longer at one side than it is at the other!! I never cut it, so I also wonder if perhaps some of it is caught inside his tail washer? I seem to remember noticing it as a child, so it's possible he came to me like that or it happened very early on after I had him. So although I can't say for definite regarding your pony, it does appear they weren't necessarily made perfectly always to start with, and after many years of play they also show signs of wear and tear. I have heard of the hairs stretching thing as well, which does make sense.

I think she was free in a box of cereal, so lesser quality hair cuts would make sense  ^.^

You're thinking of a pony with a similar color scheme, Baby Stockings. :)  This is Baby Fun 'n Games from the UK pony club offer.

I don't know about this pony specifically, but I do know some ponies are factory produced with uneven hair.  The two I know of specifically are Majesty and Sprinkles.

My baby Sandcastle and Shovels have some uneven manes/tails..particularly Sandcastle and her tail... I've had them since a kid and didn't mess with their hair.

There are a couple of others in my collection too (Sunbeam, I'm thinking of in particular) but those are two that come to mind, regarding the babies.

I notice it's a fairly common problem in curly haired ponies, and in tails it's usually just the tail washer got a little off center, or the clamp not quite as tight as it should be(so a section of hair slides a little)

I think uneven hair like that is MORE likely to be factory-  due to the way the root the mane.  Sometimes the rooting misses or the hair comes out partway...

If it had been trimmed it would be more even -

No, its not always a sign of a cut. As Lunar mentions, curly hair is often like this when straighened out and some later ponies with straight hair seemed to have a slightly lower quality finish (i.e. not the perfect hair). I have come across plenty of this girl with similar hair issues.

I think we call a lot of uneven hair *haircuts* for the wrong reasons! I know that my childhood ponies sometimes already where missing a couple of plugs at the end of the mane *and I think this is due to a worker in the factory* or when i first combed a new pony some strands came of or became longer!

A lot of the later Euro ponies have slightly uneven hair too, like the Flower ponies.
