Stack Toys are making me crazy!
« on: August 31, 2015, 07:04:07 PM »
I have been sorting through accessories for two weeks. I left the worst for last. I have, literally, a PILE of stack toys. All disassembled and mixed up.

Is there any way to know which combination of colors went with each pony? Or was it truly random? I have checked a few sites, but they all contradict and don't agree. (The only one I know is correct is my childhood paradise estate stack toy, since I only ever had one, and was PICKY about it staying together. And it doesn't match any of the online guides...)

I'm a bit of a purist, so this is making my eye twitch. *twitch twitch*

The colors were constant, but the order varied at random.  For example, every Baby Hoppy & Pockets stack toy will have white, orange, blue, lime green and yellow, but any of the pieces could be in any size, as long as there is one of each.  Basically this was because the parts were cast on a sprue that included every piece of one color, and they'd be mixed up at the factory to produce the various stack toys.

Thats true :)
So what you need to do is look up the color schemes and sort them out. Then pick four pieces of one color scheme (every piece in a different color and size) and put it back together :)

I can't get enough of the stack toys... please make me drool!!!!! I'm stack toy queen, but they still annoy me....

Pinks: 2 distinct shades
Yellows: 3 shades
Greens: 4 shades
Blues: 2 shades

I have also recently discovered 2 different shades of purple, but I'm going to pass it off as a dye lot variation.
These are the certainties that make the toys unique.

FT: purple, aqua, yellow
FP: green, pinkish-purple
PE: green
Pals: green, orange

This photo is about 3 years old... I need to update it.

Yeah, the stack toys are confusing, especially if they don't seem to match what's "supposed" to go together. A friend of mine has a stack toy that doesn't seem to match any of the ones I know about because it has two different shades of yellow when one should have been gold, if I'm remembering correctly.

Good luck getting them sorted out!

As if it wasn't confusing enough, be aware that there are fakie stack toys out there.  I remember buying some at Toys R' Us around the same time G2 was available, memory's a bit fuzzy but "Pony Luv" maybe?  They were small baby ponies with booties moulded on, standing and sitting. They came with not only a fakie stack toy copied from Hasbro moulds but a First Tooth toothbrush and toothpaste and some other random accessories that weren't MLP originally. I have 'em still around somewhere.

Also doesn't preclude the factory messing up and putting together the wrong pieces, dye lots, nor pieces getting swapped over the years if you had multiple stack toys in one collection - I did that myself as a child.

Oh my goodness... I don't think I would have the patience to pay much attention to matching the correct bits to their ponies... I only have one full stack toy anyway and that does me fine. XD Power to anyone who is able to be this diligent!

Its the top most rings...they are what really drive me crazy. So many stack toys missing just that one :P

As others have said, order is random but the colour is consistent to the release. Its boring but all to do with manufacture rather than anything else more planned.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
