Art and a love story: Sunny Salsa and Pick a Lily

I’ve had the MIB set of Super Long Hair Pick-a-Lily and Sunny Salsa in my collection for a whole year now and I have always imagined that they were lovers, I just didn’t have a good story for them. My best friend helped me write their love story today in Skype. Pick-a-Lily is nonverbal autistic and she is terrible at showing her affection to Sunny Salsa the spunky Hispanic party girl, who she has been dating for a year now. Her special interest is flowers, especially lilies, so she began bringing her flowers every morning when she tends to her garden.

This is the collab of me (the g3 ponyloving autistic lesbian) + my best friend (the hispanic drag queen with a vivid imagination). Together we combined our knowledge of our own lives and gave my ponies the love story they deserved. I hope you like it! I'm not much of a writer but we had fun!

Sunny Salsa was feeling overwhelmed by all the gifts from Lily and felt like she had to be doing something in return to show her affection as well, and nothing says you care about someone like homemade salsa.  Sunny presented her with a big bowl of her homemade salsa and chips one afternoon and Lily began eating the chips immediately. “Why don’t you try the salsa I made you!” Sunny said. Lily dipped one chip in and unnaturally slid the chip into her mouth. “Thanks I love it” she said with the unchewed chip still in her mouth.

Sunny figured it was a little uncomfortable for her girlfriend for her to be staring at her while she was eating so she began talking about her vacation to Butterfly Island last summer. She got so carried away talking about how her super long hair got tangled on the water slides that she forgot to give Lily a chance to say something. When she looked up, half the salsa was gone!

The next day Sunny made Lily a whole new batch. They sat down and had lunch together again and Sunny began chatting away about her cousin, Fiesta Flair’s amazing maraca performance in Pinkie Pie’s LadyBug Jamboree. When she looked up, she noticed Lily was scooping the salsa right into the bushes.

Sunny doesn’t call her out on it or say anything about it. She just keeps talking about how Fiesta Flair has grown up so fast how she feels like they were celebrating her Quinceañera just yesterday. When she goes home that night she can’t help but think to herself that she did something wrong.

“Was my salsa not good enough?” she says as she fumbles through her recipe book. “What’s wrong with my salsa? I used my very own home grown tomatoes and Pepperberry’s peppers!”

“Of course!” she said. “Pepperberry sold me those peppers the day before. I need the freshest peppers she has and I need to be using my juiciest tomatoes. I can only give Lily the best!”

The next afternoon she gives Lily a new bowl of salsa, made with only the freshest and best ingredients in Ponyville.

“Oh, you made more salsa.” Lilly said, her eyes low and her hooves brushing against the grass in a repetitive motion “Thank you so much!” she looks up at Sunny for a brief moment, smiling. “It…wow, thanks!” They sat down to eat together in Lily’s garden and Sunny began telling her about the funny story Pepperberry told her when she was buying the peppers from her.

“Apparently, Juniper Jade needed a model for her painting in the park, but Rainbow Dash thought it was a photo shoot! Four hours later her makeup was sweating off in the sun and her hair was greasy! No wait, it gets better! Fluttershy shows up with her photography gear to take pictures for her portfolio, and gets all these unflattering shots of Rainbow Dash! Turns out it was a photosh-” Sunny looked down at a now empty bowl of salsa.

“Oh, finished already?” she said, pretending like she couldn’t smell the tomatoes and peppers behind the bushes.

“It was great thanks!” Lily said. “I’ll see you this time tomorrow!” She kissed her on the cheek and cantered off.

Sunny was distraught. She thought she made the best salsa in Ponyville and it still wasn’t good enough for Lily. “That’s it!” She said. “I need my Abuela’s recipe! She’ll love it!”

Sunny took a trip to Dream Valley to visit her Abuela, Rayito. She begged and begged Rayito to give her the super secret family recipe.

“I don’t think you’re quite ready for that!” Rayito said. “ I am very protective of that recipe.”

“Nana please, it’s for my girlfriend, I love her but she hasn’t said it yet to me! I’ll do anything! She gives me these beautiful lilies every day but my salsa just isn’t good enough for her! I need to show how much she means to me but everything I do is just not good enough!”

“Ah” Rayito says, putting one petite hoof on Sunny’s haunches. “Mijita, the secret ingredient to my salsa is love.”

“That’s so corny!” Sunny laughs. “Please, stop joking with me! What do you put in your salsa!”

Rayito shook her head. “It’s ordinary salsa. Nothing special to it. It’s just tomatoes, green pepper, onion, cilantro, and lime, with a hint of salt. What makes it so special is that it’s a labor of love. Everything I make, I make with love.”

“I just don’t understand!” Sunny says. “Then how come she doesn’t like my salsa!”

Rayito chuckled. “Maybe you should talk to her. It sounds like you really care about this filly.”

The next day Sunny met Lily in the usual spot. Lily gave her fresh flowers and sat down with Sunny for an afternoon picnic. “No salsa?” Lily asked. “No story?” she said after a moment of silence. “Sunny, did I do something wrong?”

Sunny sighed. “Lily, I knew you throw away my salsa, but I’ve worked really hard to make it for you. You always give me these beautiful flowers and I don’t really know how to do the same for you.”

“I’m sorry” Lily said. “I’m not good at this stuff, do you want to see the new rose bush?”

“Not now, Lily. I want you to tell me what’s wrong with my salsa. I just want to impress you.”

“I do too!” said Lily. “I have some issues…with tomatoes. I actually can’t eat them. The texture is weird. The whole..aroma..how they feel in my mouth..it’s hard to describe, but it makes me feel weird. I just didn’t want your effort to feel like a waste the first time, and I didn’t expect you to keep bringing me salsa. I didn’t know how to tell you the truth.”

“You just don’t don’t like tomatoes? I think I can live with that! I wish you had told me the first time! Then how can I ever make it up to you for all the flowers?” Sunny said

“Maybe next time, you could wear the flowers in your hair, or carry them around town, so everyone would know that there’s a pony out there who loves you”

Okay I ADORE this story! Although I'm a little confused because? If Pick a Lily is nonverbal, then how is she able to speak in the story? (I hope this doesn't sound too ignorant but)
