Interesting indeed.

It shows how easy it is for someone to assume something when its out of the norm for them or their culture.

Grewing up as a goth myself I can only give this article two thumbs. It was my main source of inspiration and I would not be the artist I am today if not for that force.

My parents keep saying I should go out more and hang with people to have a good time, but in reality, I have my greatest of times when it is just me, Martina, and our best friend, the inspiration.

Seriously though, I'm very curious as to how somebody makes the connection between a fashion style and a mental illness.
I'm probably the opposite of goth I mean? I'm all about the pastel pink aesthetic scene but I'm also prone to bursts of depressive states.

Regardless I don't see how dressing a certain way makes you susceptible to mental illness.

Yeah I thought that survey really forgot the whole correlation =/= causation.
Like people who are in the Goth subculture may be more likely to be depressed than others (but then there's probably an equal amount of depressed people in other subcultures if they went and looked into it but they probably wont) but it's likely not 'they're depressed because they are goths' more like 'they are depressed and just happen to be goths' and or 'the Goth subculture is appealing to people with depression' or something

I'm not goth but in my city we're kind of lumped together (metalheads, synths, goths etc) and always at the same club and in my experience goths has always been the happiest and friendliest and warm people ever.

An unhappy fact of life in this allegedly "equality-driven" society is that people are most affected by and biased because of how people look, and make assumptions accordingly.

Interesting article :)

It's a slightly different note, but when I was working at the college, one of my students, for his English Oral presentation, did a defence of Heavy Metal music and why it is proven to be good for you/your intelligence/stress levels and not damaging/dangerous/inciting people to violence.

He did a really good job of it, and some great debate/conversation ensued.

One thing that I really liked about working at that place was that the kids generally weren't afraid to express themselves about things. One of the other things I learned was that the kids who had issues were generally not the ones who looked like or sounded like they did. With a lot of them, if you didn't know, you wouldn't know...which kinda blows the stereotypes out of the water. I had some kids I worked with who did have serious mental health issues. Not one of them identified as gothic.

People who are vulnerable are people who are vulnerable. Some of them like to be gothic. Some don't. End of ;)
