Fixing/displaying your winged G2s?
« on: August 26, 2015, 01:34:49 AM »
First some backstory. You may jump to the next section if you are disinterested in my nostalgic musings!

I have Princess Twinkle Star. Her backcard says that her wings magically appear when someone wishes upon a star. She would go on a nightly flight across the starry sky and use her powers by passing the brightest stars in an attempt to fulfil the dreams of her friends, but it seldom worked. When the glass ponies (fakies with transparent wings) turned one of the ponies into glass the others wished desperately for her recovery, but to no avail. One pony, Sky Skimmer, wished once for the chance to experience what it felt like to be in love and became irreversibly infatuated with the only stallion in the herd.

Anyway, the wings were only played with when the story called for it which meant that they remained in good condition throughout my childhood. After years of packing and unpacking her, more than one of the wing clamp "teeth" has unfortunately broken off and also sadly been lost. As I'm nearing the completion of my custom friendship garden I find myself wondering if I should display the two winged G2s I have, and how. Twinkle Stars wings are so broken they can't clamp around her body in this state. At least not without endangering the rest of the teeth. Is there a way to reinforce them? Have you had this problem, and how can it be fixed in a visually acceptable way?
I'm looking to buy Port-o-Bella. Please email me.

I've got Princess Twinkle Star too, and even as a kid, I almost never put her wings on. They are quite rigid and don't really fit her body well, so I was always worried they might scratch or otherwise damage her. If the clamp thiniges are broken, they might have even sharper edges.

What about you keep the wings somewhere in her vicinity? Maybe you could hang or clip them onto a dark scarf and pretend it's the night sky. Or maybe keep them somewhere in a tree branch?

Maybe drill small holes on the opposite sides and tie them on with a pretty ribbon?

Hm, I suppose I could balance them on her back with the extra support of some backdrop prop or something. I've never seen anyone fix G2 wings. I was thinking about glueing something on them to make new teeth. :/

Do you have pictures of the exact issue? It may be easier to come up with some options for you :)

Took a proper look and some photos. There are three teeth on one side and two on the other, and with this pair broken on the two-toothed side it makes them particularly weak.

My childhood Twinkle Star ended up with wings like those :( Back in the day (I'm feeling old) my dad used something like a small tube holder for unfinished film/ pictures and made a saddle out of it... :P Or at least I think it was something like that. I lost the wings when we moved to another house >.>

But maybe you can make something like a saddle? At least you can still put the wings on and off the pony then :)

That's not a bad idea. I would want them be able to be taken off and closed again though. Perhaps I could reinforce the one damaged side with a see-through material.

Can you use a piece of ribbon to hold them in place perhaps? I would be tempted to use something non permanant rather than glueing something together.

Hm, yeah, it's the pressure from clamping that I'm afraid of. Maybe keeping it on unclamp with the help of see-through elastic bands would work.

Is there any way to use a sculpting clay to build new teeth? I'm not sure if super sculpy would be strong enough, but an apoxie clay might?
