Ideas for displaying pins?
« on: August 22, 2015, 02:34:41 PM »
I've been going through stuff and recently discovered a bunch of bags of little 1in pony pins (the round ones). I'd love to display them but I'm not really sure how to go about it. I haven't taken them out of the bags to count but I'd guess I have around 20.

I've seen several people at conventions coat their bags in similar pins. I've a handful of pony pins, I stuck them on con lanyards and hung those on a shelf.

What if you found a bulletin board, or other flat surface, wrap it in fabric and display the pins on that?
Thanks to Lunacat for the lovely art

Cork board works really well! You can cover it in a thin patterned fabric you like to give it more flair too! As long as you remember where you store the pin backs  ^.^

Are the backs straight like a pushpin or do they have a clasp like a safety pin?

Can I see a picture of the pins?

I used to have a bunch of pins displayed by hanging a wide ribbon vertically on the wall and pinning the pins along the length of it.  It went well on a really narrow piece of wall I had at the time.
Thanks to Shimmlight for the new avatar image

I was coming in to say this haha. My cousin collected buttons. She glued a cute fabric to cork and put them on it like that

Get a piece of wide tulle, glue dowels to the ends, and hang it from a ribbon; it works great for all kinds of pins, looks nice, and can be hung anywhere! :)

I added fancy duct tape over the dowels to tidy it up a little:

This is how I display my Disney Pins.

These aren't Disney, but it worked for them as well

Basically, I take a canvas, paint a fitting background and then put the pins in.

They're more like safety pin backs. I don't know the right word but they're round. I think most everyone else is talking about a different kind of pin, the shaped ones with straight backs.

I found this old photo but I don't think it has all of the pins in it.

The canvas and corkboard ideas are so cute (I might use them for my shaped straight back pins), but sadly they won't work for these guys. The tulle might work though! And I know exactly where I could hang it too. Thanks guys! :D

You can use those with canvas.  It's a little more difficult than the straight backed pins but it's doable.

If you do decide to go with canvas for future projects keep in mind that you have to be careful not to get the pins too close to the wooden frame (just turn it over to see where it's at) because that makes it even harder to put the pins in.

As far as background goes, you can do anything you want so go nuts.

Good luck!

I love this idea!!!

I have seen people use earring racks for them as well...they work for smaller pages and smaller display areas.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

Oh an earring rack is such a good idea! I should check those out. I found a handful of straight back pins I didn't know I had, but they're all completely different types so the awesome canvas idea won't work for them.
