Sealing Gold Paint
« on: July 30, 2015, 04:28:02 AM »
I want to paint a custom with gold paint, but my sealer (testor's dulcote) says not to use on gold or metallic paints. So what kind of sealer do I use? Also, can I paint the gold with spray paint or should I stick with acrylics? Spray paint would be faster

Spray paint will likely stay sticky. Use a gloss sealant (like Glosscote) rather than a matte one (like Dullcote) for metallics or you'll take away that sparkle. The Dullcote won't actually hurt anything, it just takes away the metallicy sheen and sparkle.

Do you have matte or gloss?  I have used gloss on it with no issues and no lose of color.  I also use krylon with no issues.

I bought Model Master ultra gloss clearcoat. It says "Hobby/model/craft clear and metallic. Does not exceed 95% VOC by wt."

Did I get the right stuff?
