New Bunny - Meet KitKat!

A friend of mine contacted me recently about adopting her girl bunny, who's roughly a year old.  She's pregnant and apparently the pregnancy stirred up a hidden allergy that she's never had before.  They've had this rabbit for over a year and she never had a problem at all, but about 4 months ago she went out to brush the rabbit and had a massive allergy attack...rash, sweating, nebulizer treatment - the whole nine yards! 
She messaged me on Facebook and asked if I was interested in adopting her, since she was stuck outside in a hutch all alone.  I wasn't totally sold because Hershey had just passed and I was pretty convinced I didn't want another bunny.  She sent me pics and I just couldn't stop thinking about the poor girl outside by herself in the Mississippi summer heat.  She's half fuzzy lop and I knew she had to be miserable out there.  After a week of missing each other and not being able to meet up, she delivered the little miss to our house Saturday...i'm SO GLAD we adopted her!  OMG, poor girl!  She was filthy and her hair was so matted up.  I gave her a dry-ish bath, with those pet wipes and some refresher spray and then I spent over an hour on the floor with her, cutting mats out of her hair.  I still didn't get them all, but she has an appointment at the vet tomorrow for a shave and a nail clipping.  She was SO MAD at me that I just stopped messing with her.  For the first hour she was fine, but then she started grunting at me, and when she swiped at me, I just left her alone.  She got over it after a little while and came over to me and sat on the floor with me, but you could tell she still wasn't totally forgiving me, lol. 
She seems to be doing okay now - tonight I plan to reorganize her little area, since we are keeping her away from Toby for the moment...minimal contact from opposite sides of the bars for now.
Anyway! ;tldr - We got a new bunny, look!

Toby was guarding her in her teeny little cage, while I got the big cage set up for her - she's got a pet store cage as her home base, with a barricade of cube panels around it to give her room to move.  I plan on buying a big dog crate to put in the corner and totally do away with the other cage.  Looks better, more space, and easier to clean.

Oh they're so cute! :3 That really sucks that your friend had such a sudden and bad reaction that she had to get rid of her, but I'm sure she's glad to know she went to a good home.

Thanks, everyone!  She seems to be getting a little more comfortable with us.  I sat on the floor and watched TV with her last night...she kept coming over and sniffing at my legs and she sat down next to me for a little while.  I dropped her off at the vet this morning for the rest of her beauty treatment.  She's getting her nails done and getting the rest of her mats cut out.  I don't know if they'll shave her down or just shave her underside...I told them to do whatever they needed to do to her hair to get the mats out, lol.

What a gorgeous little lady she's gonna feel so much better once all her matts are out! Glad to hear she's getting more comfortable with you too.

AWwwee!!!! :3 I see why you were dreading the idea of her being out in the heat, look how long her beautiful fur is!!! What a nice rescue, congrats! She reminds me of a before-and-after doll from the thrift store with how messy her fluff was and how beautiful it turned out after a clean!

She looks shocked that she is in a new home with cooler air and clean fur! Im sure she will be happier!

aww bunnies! they were my first pet xD. I always wish I could get them again!

lala I think maybe she meant her friend was pregnant?? I know when I got pregnant I became super sensitive to some smells/flavors, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was also capable of  triggering some sort of allergy? But I could be wrong. baby bunnies would be so so cute!

I'm such a slave to the bunny rabbits, lol.    They are my absolute favorite pet.  I've had cats and dogs, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, ferrets, reptiles...I've always been a pet person.  But I have a soft spot for bunnies

And yes, I meant my friend was pregnant:)  Baby bunnies would be TOO cute, but thankfully, no babies right now.  I have no idea what I'd do with them, lol!

Aaawww, what a lucky little girl to come to a new loving home. She's beautiful. I'm looking forward pics of her after the vets visit.

I just picked her up from the vet and took her back home.  Her hair is so much more smooth and silky now!  They got all the mats out and used the de-shedding brush on her to get some of the loose hairs out.
