Using wall paint on radiators?
« on: July 08, 2015, 05:24:32 PM »
Hi ponies, I want my radiators the same colour as the walls. The radiators have been primed and glossed in the past, so I'm hoping I can paint them with the same paint as the walls? Specifically Dulux Kitchen and Bathroom.  Wiki how and Yahoo answers etc seem to be divided on the subject.  Does anyone know?

I have no idea. I don't think I've ever had a radiator.

We've only used paints for metals or radiators when painting radiators. Wallpaint might get bubbly and start loosing from the radiator if it gets too hot.

No idea--but I don't see the harm in it if the paint is designed for wet situations

It's the kitchen and bathroom one so I'm reckoning it might be more resilient to heat and steam.  Maybe I will just give it a go and post back! I hardly use the heating anyway  :P

Don't do it! Paint is not designed to get hot and it'll bubble up and release nasty fumes.
You can get special radiator paint, but it doesn't come in very many colours. Another option is to get the metal/wood paint - just make sure you read on the tin what temperature is allowed.
I got mine from B&Q and it's good up to 80 degrees. On some tins it doesn't say, so stay clear of them.
