Would Sunfading Solve Parasols Woes?

Rescued this Parasol today at thrift.  She's in great condition... Except../

a large patch of discoloration.  :/

I assume this is just regrind or plastic deterioration.  It didn't wash off with soap and seems like the plastic itself has changed.

Would sunfading work?

Regrind is plastic deterioration, so no, there's nothing to fade. Sunfading works on stains, where there's some sort of pigmentation/coloring that can be itself deteriorated.

Looks like dye transfer to me. Never seen regrind on a Parasol. I'd try sunfading. It's not far from the original colour so you could get a great result  :)

I wonder if some kind of chemical was used to attempt to remove a stain?  It looks like some serious pigment leeching going on there!

ya crazy looking right?  I've never seen such an extensive regrind area, so I wasn't sure that's what it was.

so if I wanna try a sunfadr are we saying I should only expose the discolored area?

Didn't someone post a Flutter Pony with such severe regrind that it changed her entire body color?

Regrind normally comes in small blotches that (eventually) can join up to cover the whole pony. I would think this is either dye transfer or maybe bleaching. Either way, I would have a go at sunfading it.  :)

Regrind does not appear in stripes/swaths like that, only blotches which if extensive enough, can cover a whole pony - if I had to guess, a child got enthusiastic with a highlighter.  Does the stain spread around the underside of the leg?

If you are going the sunfading route, cover up everything but the area to be treated.  If it is highlighter, should be effective.

I dont think its regrind. As mentioned the pattern is not quite right. This does look like something has been scribbled/wiped all over that section and either caused the plastic to discolour or it itself has discoloured over time. I dont think sun fading will work as it looks pretty deeply stained (not surface) - i.e. as though its residual of something that has already faded away. But I would give it a try just in case..she cant get worse right?

I agree with Cat :) it looks more like felt pen or marker rather than anything else.

It's think it's later release ponies that suffer from re-grind, post 1986 or so :) I could be getting mixed up though
