MLP in Japan
« on: July 01, 2015, 07:53:57 PM »
I have a friend who moved to Japan and she'd like to send some things over to me.   Anyone know if and where MLP items are available there?   She's around the Kofu, Yamanashi area.
I'm not expecting there to be Japan exclusives.   Just thought it would be fun to have a MLP item that was sent from Japan.

 Thanks.

there was an (official) online store that sold a ton of neat stuff, but they closed it. It has little plush, charms, notebooks and neat stuff we don't have. I don't know if that closing had any affect on what was in stores.

Here's a site in Japanese about where to pick up stuff in stores (or not?), it used to be the link for the online store

You can have you friend check Amazon, last time I looked they still had a few G1 retro things (like cellphone plug)

I've seen earphones/jack plugs on YJA with Gusty/ Powder on and I think they're newish Japanese type G1 merchandise. I know there's a Japanese dub of FIM and there's a ton of G4 on YJA, but there are occasional G1,2,3 ponies around on there too. I think that's because of the ponies that travelled with Japanese families when one or other of the parents was working in location in the US or Europe and so it might be worth having your friend check any second hand stores. Takara ponies are an extremely unlikely prospect, but you might pick up unexpected second hand finds if you look for them, just based on the YJA listings...

With FiM officially released in Japan it does seem to have a very good presence. They have the cute little FurYu plush over there - the key chain size ones are especially adorable. I believe its mostly claw machines and pop culture stores they would be found in. The latter location is where I would suggest your friend look as MLP has very much become a comic book line at the moment.

Hmm, I know someone once found a store that was selling a lot of really nice G1s and they had them displayed really nicely (and with a steep price tag!), but I don't remember any details about the store!

I know I'd love to have some of their MLP manga if just for the artwork.

What is the manga like? Does it adapt episodes or is it new stories?

Thanks for all the replies gang.   She went out to a few stores but couldn't find anything.  I remember a blog with lots of G1 retro style stuff but can't find it now.  Maybe she'll stumble onto something on another shopping trip.
