drowning in fabric
« on: June 25, 2015, 04:11:35 PM »
what do you guys do with your extra fabric?
for example i found perfect minky pink i needed, but all that was left was a remnant so i had to buy 1 3/4 of a yard, when i only needed 1/8
not sure if i can sell it on etsy or if anyone would even buy it,
plus i have a bunch of striped minky for pony socks, but i only make a set from each an have a ton left over.

*raises hand*

I have a fabric problem and have done for a loooong time. I just can't help myself if I see something pretty or unusual. I am always after tiny prints, which are hard to find, so I pick them up when I see them.

My friend also picks up fabrics for me, she has an awesome fabric/craft shop where she lives!

*wardrobe bursts open due to amount of fabric crammed in*

What I do with small off cuts and bits I can't use due to the shape, I save and donate to my local primary school for their crafts/after school clubs. I know they get very little budget for art stuff and I know the kids will love the stuff I donate (shiny and cute).

I bought one of those shoe organizer cabinets, the kind with the small cubbyholes you put a pair of shows in, you know?  I can fit a bit more than a yard of fabric (I only use minky) in each cubby, either folded neatly or rolled.  If I have less than a yard of one color I can often fit two of them in the same cabinet.  It keeps them tidy, and it looks cool!  I need a second one though, I have way too much minky.  ^^;

I don't have a lot of Minky, but I do have several (like ten...) boxes of fabric even though I just threw out a lot in the move. Most of my fabrics I buy with doll clothes in mind and I have organized the fabrics in different boxes according to what I have in mind for them.

I love this idea!

I have tons of fleece and minky on hand at all times.  Every time I am in a fabric store, I pick up anything in the remnant bin I think I can use for ponies.  I probably have enough fabric on hand to make 50 -60 ponies.  :)

I also use some of the leftover fleece to make cat beds for my daughter's barn cats....after all, just because they live in the barn doesn't mean they can't have a cute bed.

I culled a bunch of mine this week!  I took about 4 bins of fabric to Value Village - I realized if I didn't have an idea right away for it, I shouldn't be indefinitely keeping it!  :)

It all started as my friend is a teacher and used to buy art materials for her class out of her own pocket. She now works at a fancy school so doesn't need my supplies, so I give them to the school down the road.

My friend used to send me pictures of all the stuff the kids made, it was great! I know the kids at the local school will be having fun now too ^.^

I contacted our local primary school a couple of days ago and since they run a daycare program for the summer, they were more than happy to accept my donation of fabric.  :) :)

There was a swap I participated in on the Den of Angels forum a while back where a box containing different fabrics would be passed around.  Everyone participating would take what they wanted, added something from their own stash, then ship to the next person.  It was tons of fun, and the fabric sizes were perfect for doll clothes.

*stands embarrased*

Hello, I'm Archi and my fabric bins runneth over. I came by such an obsession through my mother's side as she and her mother also seemed to "collect" fabrics for "what-if" situations. And I have no idea of what to do with most of it.  ^^;
Creatively cute and proud of it!  Have a very good day, [you]!  ^.^

I'm making custom cute pony plushies and have set up an Etsy store called Ponies A'More! Ponies + More + LOVE! :heart: :inlove: :heart:
Finally got my SALES thread up and update it as I can.  :satisfied:
Lastly, posting my Wishlist here!  :biggrin:
