So I Boiled some Ponies
« on: May 30, 2015, 03:21:54 PM »
I used a cup of oxiclean and boiled ponies that had mold and pony cancer. I removed their head and flipped them a few times. I only put them in for a few minutes. So are they ok to hang out with other ponies or is there still a danger of mold spreading?

Hmm I'm not sure. I mean as long as they are not touching the other ponies they should be fine? After all, heat kills anything. However I personally would have boiled them for around 10 minutes but maybe that's just me :)
Thanks to SDS for my siggy and avi

Are you sure it was mould?  VDS (vinyl deterioration syndrome aka 'pony cancer', which is nothing of the sort and isn't a terribly appropriate name for the condition) is not treatable by boiling or cleaning or any other method, it's entropy.  You can't stop chemical bonds from deteriorating in an unstable substance such as most modern plastics, including vinyl.  You can slow it down with proper storage conditions, but it never really halts completely.

Yes, some was mold and some was pony cancer which I think is the same as VDS. I only boiled the a few minutes, because I read somewhere that it can break down the glue that holds their hair in and I was afraid that would happen.

Actual mould on ponies can be unusual - normally its something else. :) However if this was mould and if you have boiled the ponies you will have managed to kill off anything that was there. They will therefore  be fine to be displayed with your other ponies.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
