It's pretty harsh but I've used Lime Away before, but be prepared for hefty conditioning =/

It would be worth a try soaking the tail in vinegar overnight and then scrubbing again. :)

I have tried Orange Oil or Citrus Cleaner. I got most of the rust out with it but not all from the tail. :/

RIT Rust Remover maybe?

I ll second this - its a great "if nothing else is working" option :)

You should also consider a soak in a baking soda paste.

I have a couple of ponies with tail rust that have me stumped, too.  I'd like to try the RIT rust remover, but I'm not sure where to get it.  Hardware store?  Target?  Fabric store?

Thanks and I hope it is okay to ask in this thread, it seemed logical...

You can normally find it on Amazon but if not most hardware stores will carry it as will any stores that carry rit dye (so fabric shops like Joanns)
