MH Introduction
(This part is taken from my introduction on Monster High Arena. MLP-specific parts to follow. To fellow MH Arena members also on this forum: Hi!)
I am 36 years old. I live on an island (Bainbridge Island, in particular, out in the Pacific Northwest in the lovely state of Washington. It's not desert-like, but it is quaint).
I work as a software developer. I used to work for Amazon.com (for over 10 years! which is a long time in the software industry), and currently I am now nominally self-employed.
Important people in my life: currently one online friend, whom I'm going to visit soon. I tend not to make many good friends; I am a pushover, and people detect that and take advantage of me, and I am so desperate for friendship that I let them do that for a while. This is not going to be happening again after my last recent experience.
(This part is MLP-specific.)
I collected My Little Ponies, G1, as a little girl in the 80's and early 90's. There are many bad memories associated with them because my upbringing was not pleasant and, indeed, I usually describe it as "take a Roald Dahl childhood, and dial it up to 11."
So what brings me back?
I started watching "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" and fell in love with the characters. I got stuffed versions of the Mane Six. I didn't dare get plastic versions out of fear that the memories would resurface. Even though G4 is miles away different-looking than G1 or even G3. (I dabbled, from time to time, out of curiosity, looking at pictures and stuff, over the years.)
And then came Equestria Girls. Now, at first I thought, what a gimmick! And gimmick it may be. But as I've started to collect and make clothes for Monster High dolls (some to sell on Etsy), I thought: maybe owning plastic doll versions of the Mane 6 wouldn't be so bad. And I could make clothing for them, as I'm going to be learning pattern drafting. I looked on Etsy for Equestria Girl doll clothing in fact, and found that there was only one shop.
There really needs to be more selection.
So Twilight Sparkle and Rarity (Equestria Girls) are on their way. I selected two models of each, and three of them even come with feet. (Oh dear.) But I look forwards to joining whatever customization/art/sewing forums and threads there are. ^_^
Related somewhat: I am drawing inspiration from the dresses in Friendship is Magic for the centaur fashion doll in Monster High. Once I work out the math, it should be quite an interesting experiment.
Maybe... maybe I should get like... the actual pony versions and also make clothing for them? I mean, I've got Equestria Girls.
It seems to be a slippery slope...
Anyways: Hi there!
