If so, what brand and shade of dye did you use?  Photos would be great too.  :)

I'm going to have a go either way, so any suggestions as to brands and shades would be great.  I have plenty of white hair to experiment on first!

I've never tried to re-dye Dabble's hair (since that would require a Dabble! lol) but I recently used Rit's "Aquamarine" in a different project, and it's pretty close color-wise. I think it's a bit too blue, but if you mixed it with a little green dye, it might work for you.

Another option is the "Bright Aqua" acid dye from Dharma Trading Co., although shipping to New Zealand might be slow and/or expensive. The people at Dharma are incredibly nice and helpful though, so they might be willing to send you a tiny sample for cheaper if you email them.

Thanks, that's really helpful.  I was thinking of Rit Aquamarine but like you, I thought it could be a bit too blue.  Teal on the other hand looks a bit too green.  Maybe I'll get both and experiment.  Though I just had a look at the Dharma site and shipping is not bad at all (but takes 3-5 weeks).  So that's definitely an option if the Rit doesn't work out.  Thanks again!

I remember, back in the day, people using colored Sharpie markers to re-color horizontal stripes.

Is there a reason why people no longer do that?

yes, sharpies make the hair nasty, manky, frizzy and stiff, and it bleeds when wet

Dorky question, but what about "painting" the hair with the dye?  For that matter, would maybe adding something like this to the water the dye is in help keep it from running?

I heard from someone who does gradient dying that you can take RIT powder dye, add it to conditioner and.. 'paint' it on.  I haven't tried this yet but I will soon.

This stuff looks like a good colour match but I'm not so sure about the application...

I have always used food colouring dye. Is this no longer in vogue?

Naturally  :).  However, it may work equally well with a hair dryer or hot water, and it's inexpensive, so could be fun to experiment with.

I use that for pink sometimes :P Really gets a good solid colour. We are either behind the times or so forward thinking no one has as yet caught up with us....hmmmm
