train travel in Germany- book online or in person?
« on: April 23, 2015, 11:21:06 AM »
Hi!

I'm a bit confused about booking a bus trip from Nuremburg to the Netherlands.

First- there are like 8 station options online and I don't know which one?

Second- is it cheaper to book ahead online or is in person okay the day of travel?

I'm not sure about which stations are the right ones, unfortunately! *Hoping the German and Dutch folks will chime in* I've always found it is cheaper to buy bus tickets in advance. I'm not totally sure about buying tickets the day of - I think it's possible but I don't know that I would recommend it. Hope that helps a bit!

Uhm, where exactly are you? Neurenberg, or really Nuremburg? Can't find the latter on googlemaps. And where are you planning to go in the Netherlands?

Edit: try this website http://www.goeuro.nl/
You can swap it to English

Whenever I've bought tickets in Europe, it's been much cheaper to buy in advance. There's usually a certain number of low-price tickets that sell out in advance, and day of tickets can end up being a lot more, sometimes 2x or 3x more.

Euro train websites can be a pain, but it's worth figuring them out with a translator and a map to figure out which train stations are which.

I'd recommend buying the tickets in advance. It's easier (also language-wise, unless you're fluent at German), and you'll probably have more choices when it comes to seats.

You are SO lucky! I have always wanted to visit my family's home country (grandma is from germany, my biological mom was austrian-american) and Germany sounds just awesome!!!!! I myself NEED to get out of this country for a long vacation hahaha. Im tired of America's economy  crap atm.

Luckily that stuff was taken care of for me when I studied in Germany. Just keep your ticket in an accessible place. They will come around randomly and check tickets on your trip.
