Poor Caramel Crunch needs a salon day! Tips?
« on: April 18, 2015, 11:59:55 PM »
Heya! Do you have any good tips on how to get poor Caramel Crunch's hair back to its former glory?

Some photos!

On top of being all tangled up and dry, the white hair has yellowed quite a bit... If I can't restore the hair I'll probably be rehairing her altogether. Tips on where to find this exact color of mane would be appreciated, as well. :)

Caramel Crunch has off white hair - yours is normal.

Replacement hair can be bought from online stores such as Dollyhair and Retrodolls.

For the curls, do a quick google of "boil perm" or "straw curls ". I use the large milkshake straws from Ikea - they're just the right diameter.

She looks in good condition tbh. Once the hair has been conditioned and straw curled it should look lovely. I personally would not rehair but she is your pony.. :)

The hair doesn't look that bad in my opinion. From what I've heard and seen G1 hair isn't that hard to restore, and I agree with moonflower, a nice wash and conditioning plus some re-curling with straws should do the job :)

Echoing moonflower here. A good conditioning would take care of the frizz, or at least most of it. It looks like some of it on the ends may need to be trimmed anyways? But if you can get most of it de-frizzed and only have to trim a little bit, then hey, cool! A lot less work than rehairing.
She'd look so lovely with big curls gosh! If you can't find milkshake straws, crayola fat markers are good for big curls too!

I can tell just from the photos as a seasoned hair restorer that this pony is awesome shape. She doesn't need a trim at all, just a conditioning and new curls! If you look close you can even see where the hair was parted for each curl segment, should be a real easy job :D

I had one that hair looked like that, and  i let her soak overnight in a conditioner/fabric softener mix and her hair fixed right up.

Absolutely I second the fact her hair looks more than recoverable :)

Thanks for your replies all! I'm glad to hear she's in a restorable condition. 8) I was a bit disappointed when I got her because the picture on eBay looked to be in much better condition! Somehow I thought her situation was dire because I've already soaked her mane in fabric softener and it did NOTHING, but I suppose my brand of fabric softener was just awful, haha. I'll try again! My partner has those exact type of Ikea straws so I'll just borrow some and give her a perm as well!

Thanks again! :lovey:

I favour conditioner for straw curls, fabric softener can leave them limp.

And for really tight curls to the parting, thread pipe cleaners through the straws, and wrap around hair.

She looks pretty awesome.  The more frizz on a pony the less you can do to re-curl them.

I've never used fabric softener.  Admittedly V05 / Suave works well enough for what I need.

Yeah, I noticed the fabric softener left her hair limp... :/ Conditioner works just fine for me too, I don't think I'll be touching softener again.

Her mane is now smooth but the ends are still really frizzy and dry. I'll try to soak the tips overnight and see if that does it. If they're still dry and frizzy after all I've done, I think I'll just trim them. She also has a good 4 cm missing from one stripe in her tail, but I can't cut the rest of the tail so short... I hope no one will notice once I do the perm. :D

Dad walked into the bathroom as I was washing her mane and thought it was hilarious.
