Plushy question
« on: April 17, 2015, 09:46:50 PM »
I have been admiring all of the amazing plushies people here have been making with their machines and by hand. My question is how are you guys making those eyes that look embroidered so perfectly?? I am learning to sew, I have only hand sewn Christmas ornaments and a toothless plushy. I just would love to know how it's done so I can maybe apply that technique to clothing and bags. Thank you.

Most use an embroidery machine for it, but some do hand embroidery. For hand embroidery there's many tutorials on the Internet, but for the machines I can't help as I have never used one.

Many people use an embroidery machine :)

Personally I use appliqué to create eyes and symbols, as well as some hand embroidery.

I will have to google these things, I didn't know there were eye appliques. Thank you both for letting me know.

yuppers, machine embroidery :) I create the vectors, and then digitize it in the embroidery software, plug in my embroidery machine, and awaaaaaaaay we go

Before Santa brought my embroidery machine, I was using acrylic paints (with fabric medium). It was a heck of a lot faster than hand embroidery. I don't have that kind of patience!

Poke around deviantart a bit--there are some great tutorials on hand embroidery and applique for pony plush.

I do all of my sewing and embroidery by hand. I think it's what gives my plushies their unique personalities. No two of my plushies will ever be exactly the same. :)

All my embroidery is just simple back stitches, and satin stitching. Contrary to popular belief, satin stitching isn't difficult! It's just slow and sometimes tedious. I happen to enjoy that. :silly:
Will make custom plushie for MIB Fashion Style Applejack. PM for details!

I am fascinated with my embroidery machine.  I hit the Go button and just stare, mesmerized, as the carriage moves back and forth.   :wow:

And then its over and the real work starts.
