I'm a Bad Pony Mom :(
« on: April 16, 2015, 01:25:23 PM »
I've been neglecting my G3 collection and they're covered in dust! I moved some earlier measuring up for their new shelves and their hair is so dry with it and you can see the dust on the darker ponies backs.
My G1 ponies have been living in a cupboard so there's never been a problem with dust and I didn't think about it for my G3s.

Does anyone know if there's anything special I need to do to clean them? I guess their bodies will just wipe clean but does the hair need washing? It's a daunting task since I have around 600 on display! Ideally I'd like something quick and easy but I'm prepared to put in the work if they all need a proper wash :)

You might get away with brushing them out? I think it depends how dusty they've got. I was presented with a few of the ponies my mother has as keepsakes to wash the other day, and I did have to shampoo them mostly, but one or two just brushed out nicely.

They were G1 though, not G3.

I would buy a new (therefore clean) stiff brush like a foundation brush and just brush and blow the dust off!

I feel your pain! Mine are also currently covered in a fine layer of dust, but life has been too busy for me to spend time cleaning them. I agree with Artemisia--a brush and your own lungs might be the best solution. :)

I hate dust so much!  Blech.   I only display a few at a time just for that reason.

I would try a damp cloth first and canned air for the hair.  But depending on the content of the dust, it might be harder than that.

Take a can of compressed air to them to clean them faster!  :)

I've used those swiffer dusting clothes before with success, but usually I just wipe them off with a dry cloth. If the hair is dirty that's another story though

Ah! I think this is the reason I try to keep a smaller collection. X: I don't want to continuously clean a large number of ponies. I'm too lazy for that upkeep! I do think it depends on how much dust that will determine what kind of cleaning regiment it should get...

Ugh, I am just as bad. Mine haven't been dusted properly since they came out of their boxes when I bought them. I've been giving mine a thorough wash, but it is time consuming to say the least!

I generally just blow/shake the dust out of the hair. Some small particles remain, but there's no way I'm washing a hundred+ ponies every time they get dusty! =P Perhaps the canned air mentioned by previous posters would do a better job.

Oh gosh! I have to take a look at mine to see how bad they are. They are in glass curio but they still do get dust in them. I HATE dust also! :( It makes me feel horrible to.

I have this amazing duster at home, but I can't remember what the brand is called! It's similar to this one I found on Amazon, though: http://www.amazon.com/Casabella-Microfiber-Chenille-Mini-Duster/dp/B005HN4MVS/ref=sr_1_14?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1429301137&sr=1-14&keywords=microfiber+duster

I use mine to brush off the tops of my ponies and things and it works pretty well. :)

I've not heard of canned air before. I've not tried any sort of cleaning yet. Part of the problem is the boxes on the floor in front of the shelves stopping me from reaching many. But on the good news I did find my step ladder so I should be able to reach them all, once I can get to them :)
I wonder if an electric fan might help with the hair. I think that's going to be the biggest problem. I might have to take advantage of the sunshine and take them outside by the box load to clean them - they live in my bedroom and I don't really want to sleep in a cloud of dust!

I feel your pain! Currently I have none of my ponies on display. Everything is stored in tubs and boxes. I used to have it all accessible, but I have let it get cluttered. Real life stuff, grrh. lol I'm not far from a 600 total myself and that's ALL gens! But I am also trying to keep it all somewhat manageable...I'm actually considering a downsize..

Hello ma'am, I'm from the Department of Families and Ponies, I'm afraid I'm going to have to remove these little ones from your care... :P

I second the canned air and Swiffer wipers suggestions! Those things are amazing!
