G1 in Eastern Europe?
« on: April 11, 2015, 01:12:24 PM »
I have been wondering for a while whether G1 was ever distributed in Eastern Europe, because I doubt we ever got any western/american toys at all before the 90s. I've read in My Little Wiki that European ponies have been sold in Poland, so I'm wondering how many eastern countries were actually importing MLP at that time. Some people from my country (Lithuania) who lived at that time report getting toys from China and other Eastern European countries while travelling, so I'm wondering which countries exactly had the toys for sale in stores. I honestly never thought there would be even the slightest possibility to find vintage ponies in my country or anywhere around it, but maybe the situation isn't that hopeless. Does anyone know anything about G1 toy distribution in Eastern Europe?

Here is a link to a recent discussion on it mlparena.com/index.php?topic=351099.0

For MLP the option was perhaps the Macau released versions. It was not unheard of for US brands to sell licenses of their product to companies who could sell into Eastern Europe. Macau made ponies were manufactured under license from Hasbro but sold in Germany and some surrounding areas. So if such lines were behind the iron curtain per se perhaps that is how they managed it?
