*Are the majority of flaws purely cosmetic or are there some that newer collectors should be aware of that can be damaging to a whole herd? My first G1s will be arriving later this week so I need to start looking into how to take care of them. My apologies if this unintentionally derails the focus of the thread.

This is a longstanding misconception. However, if your ponies are stored together in less than ideal conditions (humid, no air circulation, hot) there is a greater chance that more of them will develop these flaws. Elf
