How persistent should I be?

I went to look at a 1 bedroom flat last Monday.
35 other people showed up at the one booking time, and I had to file an application immediately.
They asked for 5 references - 2 old landlords, 2 old employers and one from my current employer.

I called Wednesday for an update and was told I was short listed. Woohoo!

I heard nothing, so called Friday. Was told I would hear by lunchtime Friday. Still nothing!

Should I call again?

Absolutely call again!  In my opinion, persistence shows a deep interest.  Or sometimes it can get people to stop sitting on their hands, 'cause they know you'll be calling again if they don't do what they said they would!

I'm not sure where in NZ you are but I've heard the rental market is crazy at the moment with a huge demand for places (certainly in Auckland at least). There's been articles in the paper about the amount of people turning up to go through places (students starting uni in particular) and the demands and expectations of applications (I guess landlords are being super picky). Talk about putting you through the wringer!

Good luck with your application. I don't think calling again would hurt. Either way you need an end to the misery!

This is one of those cases where it is probably the right thing to be polite but persistent.

Holy moly thats a lot of references and people checking out a flat! Yikes! Keeping everything crossed for you.

Admit it, this flat is actually headquarters for several superheroes, isn't it.  That's why they want reference, to make sure you're not in league with Dr. Death or some such other guy.
