G1 ponies and direct sunlight...?
« on: January 30, 2015, 03:42:26 AM »
Can anyone tell me which G1 ponies I should keep away from direct sunlight, because hair/body will fade or symbols and so on? :)

I'd say all of them! I don't like any of mine being in direct sunlight but especially the ones with fading pink hair eg Up Up away, Kiss Curl, Posey.

Apparently Twinkle Eye Gingerbread "tans" in sunlight. I've never attempted to sun fade her myself, so don't speak from experience.
But might be an idea not to attempt it, just incase you roast her ;)

I would keep all of them and any other collectibles away from direct sunlight! It will fade some part of all of them! I even have a Popple who has partially faded fur. Sunlight and ponies do not mix except as a restoration method :)

I'm glad you brought this up, I had some ponies on display that were near a window. I moved all of them though because once I got them over there I realized that wasn't a good place for them..

I'm going to say all of them too, sunfading is called sunFADING for a reason. ;) Continuous exposure to UV light can also speed up the deteriorating process of plastic, so it's not onlyfading colors you should be worried about... :yikes:

white ponies are a given, any pony with light pink fading hair, actually pastel ponies in general

 Tough one, but there is a list out there, I know Starshine, Gingerbread and Cheery Treats are on that list, ponies that 'tan' rather than fade, also possibly Majesty's head. Anyone see it?

I would keep all of them away from sun since UV light breaks down the plastic.  It might fade an ink stain making the pony nicer in the short term but maybe speed up the overall decay of the pony.  So I have a rule if it hasn't faded within 2-3 days I just give up because most ink stains seem to either shift in a few days or take months.

Don't forget ponies with pink or purple symbols!  The sun will fade the red paint first, making the symbols turn white or blue.

Okay, thank you all for answers!! :) I'm trying to keep them out of the sun, but I'm not sure it's a 100% though.. So just wondered if some got ruined before others.

I think you all are so helpful all the time! Thanks again!

Yeah, probably a good idea to move them away from the window. :) Would it help to hang a curtain over/ cover it up with fabric maybe? The shelf..? :)

Yes, I've noticed some Gingerbread and Cherry treats are more brown than white. I'd love a white Cherry treats in my pony collection. :P

Absolutely all of them! Ponies, accessories, back cards.... Everything.

You can be ever more careful by applying protective UV film over any windows in the room where you keep ponies. You can buy this at places like Lowe's and Home Depot.

I've got a whole on how to take care of your collectibles: http://glownshowpony.weebly.com/pony-maintenance-care.html

Definitely heard horror stories about Cherry Treats. I have no idea what they did when making her, but if you can find one without a spot, keep her away from sunlight.

I think that's wise.  I'm planning a pony wall of Ikea Billy bookcases, near a window, but I'm gonna drape them in blockout-curtain fabric to keep them safe.  Especially if your collection has a lot of minty/good condition ponies, it would be horrible for any damage to be done!!
